Here is some GREAT video of the fall national at Roebling Road in some of the 2-cycle sit-up sprint shifter classes. The owner from High Rise Productions in Baton Rouge, LA Was at the track to do his first ever racing video and was also watching his first ever karting event . He was great to work with and appreciated the help he received from the Southern Kart Club and the WKA.

I'm thinking seriously about joining the road racing guys and run my cr125 Honda/crg because so far, I've found very little communication and/or help regarding club races here in central Fl.
I grew up on a sprint kart racing with the Woodbridge kart Club then ran many many enduro's so although new at 60, I'm not all green! I feel like I'm 30ish and starting over!
Sprint racing used to be fun but looks like its all about money, and sponsorships!
What the heck happened? Back in the day, we would try to encourage a new racer and lend a hand or parts or even a kart when we had to. I'm doing good IF I even get a reply on a Facebook shifter kart forum!
Getting discouraging for the most part but not giving up yet! |

Ace,
You will find that almost all of the road race drivers are the type that will pitch in to help a fellow karter at an event. The shifters are a very close race group and lap after lap they are on one anothers tails! As far as Woodbribge, they put on great events as do the rest of us road race clubs. We would love to se you at one of our events. _________________ www.southernkartclub.com |

Yea like I said, there's NO help getting started locally here in central Florida when it comes to shifter sprints! Mostly I guess you gotta know a foreign language not to mention learn to read things like tyre rather than tire and more metric than ase!
When it comes to the tracks? One track owner told me my Vortex motor was nothing more than a boat anchor! He's one of their distributors in the US and all I was looking for was a rebuild! I have since switched to Honda and never looked back!
Another track owner told me the shifter class would be starting back soon. That was last year and I'm still trying to find out when they run! Asking racers themselves is like asking to leave the country un-noticed. It's like everything is a big secret or they don't want me to know because I'm sort of new! They tell me I don't need to join any sanctioning body then others say I do! They tell me just show up at the track and you can run but if I go to one track I find out most are at other tracks! Seems mostly all they do is fun run unless its a regional or national event. They have so many different national type events going on, I can't keep up! Rotax Max, SKUSA, WKA, FWT, FKCS and shifters can't participate at most of them! Why not keep it simple? What ever happened to A TRACK hosting A club race for its local supporters? Heck half the time, I can't even pronounce the racers names that flew in from overseas and set up under a huge NASCAR type trailer!
To me, it's supposed to be fun, as in father and son days but I can see it isn't that way anymore! It's all about prestige and money!
Sure turns me off especially after I spent about 6k last year putting my kart together! |

Ace,
If you have the time over the weekend of April 5-7th, go to the Kershaw race. It is a great track with long straights and technical turns. It is one of our club points races, but it is put on by WKA officials. If you have any questions for gears, post them here and I am sure you will get a reply.

Yea I heard about this race from some guy on Facebook named Noah or something like that! He's a champeeooon engine builder from what I hear and knows a lot about everything in Road Racing. Not sure I can make this race but will definitely try to make some of them on the south end!
Sorry Noah! That's for not sending me them cals! |
