If anybody still wants to pick podium finishers and talk smack...well, y'all know what to do.

Picks in by 11pm PDT Friday night please. Smile Good to see people are having fun!

Edit 2: Results - Sorry that I didn't post the rules for everybody. Just so it's clear, the intent of the 'picks before qualifying starts' is that it's best to avoid fairness issues from possible random events like a driver crashing, etc. Even though that didn't happen this time, I like to be consistent as much as possible. Obviously I'd never make a real race director! Smile

Interesting driver stats to start the season with:

Sebastian Vettel

Total starts: 101
Total wins: 26
Total podiums: 46
Total pole positions: 36
Total fastest laps: 15
Total points: 1054

He wins slightly more than 25% of the races he starts, gets pole 35% of the time and podiums almost half the time [Que WC Fields voice: Ah yes . . . reminds me of myself in my youth]

Fernando Alonso
Total starts: 196
Total wins: 30
Total podiums: 86
Total pole positions: 22
Total fastest laps: 19
Total points: 1364

Lewis Hamilton
Total starts: 110
Total wins: 21
Total podiums: 49
Total pole positions: 26
Total fastest laps: 12

Second only to Vettle in terms of wins per start.

Kimi Räikkönen
Total starts: 175
Total wins: 19
Total podiums: 69
Total pole positions: 16
Total fastest laps: 37

Not so great at winning percentage, but look at that fastest lap stat compared to Hamilton, Alonso and Vettel. Kimi cooks, no doubt about it.

Nico Rosberg
Total starts: 128
Total wins: 1
Total podiums: 7
Total pole positions: 1
Total fastest laps: 4
Total points: 399.5

Mention him only because a lot of people on this board seem to rate him highly, but if you compare his stats to most others, he actually shows quite poorly.

Vettel
Raikkonen (thanks to the prior-posted stats, I had to change my #2)
Hamilton

Lets face it... Alonso is/was over-rated IMO.... and is still in a Ferrari. IF they can get their car together, he might be able to do well....

Vettel, Redbull, and Adrian Newey make a wonderful combination and it seems to work quite well.

Lewis Hamilton has skill, Mercedes has money, Hopefully they can pull their car together and be up there in position.

Raikkonen, well, he's kimi! He would be fast in a VW Bug....

Let's face it, he took a car that barely had podium potential and brought the championship battle to the final race. Not to mention, he's got two world championship titles and was the youngest double WC at the time he won it.

Yep, definitely overrated. Wink

LewHam has enough speed and the Mercedes looks fast in winter testing, but we'll see if they can be quick over a whole race distance rather than just qualifying. And I think Rosberg will give Hamilton way more trouble than most think. You can't compare him to most of the other "top drivers" because he's been in mediocre equipment his entire F1 career.

TJ, I do agree that Alonso is a great driver, however.... I just don't think he is as consistent.

I mean, even look Alonso and Hamilton on the same team. I know it is brought up over and over, but it is the fairest comparison.... And quite frankly Alonso is a pompous @$$.... He is overly cocky, and has an overwhelming ego. I think the entire beginning of the whole Hamilton Vs Alonso Rivalry started with Alonso's overly cocky attitude and couldn't stand it when rookie Hamilton was right on his pace. When Rookie hamilton beat him in the championship I think it was a hard blow to Alonso's Large Ego....

No comparison in F1 is fair. Hamilton was raised from a child by McLaren and was their #1 driver. No matter how good Alonso was, he didn't stand a chance.

What about last year again, where Alonso beat Hamilton with a worse car than the McLaren? How is that comparison any more valid or less valid than yours? I think you just dislike Alonso because he's cocky. Which I agree, is true.

But if you rate Hamilton as better than Alonso based off consistency, I have to ask what races you've been watching the past couple years. Razz

It's okay Justin, you're clearly a Hamilton fan and I'm clearly an Alonso fan, no one will win this argument. Laughing

Alonso > Hamilton Smile

I have to say though, I really like Hamilton. Watching him on Top Gear is fun. He seems like a good dude.
