|
|
| I recently acquired a used set of spindles for my kart, but I need to replace the bearings inside. I've been going back and forth between Steel Ball Bearings vs. Ceramic Bearings. Since I feel that ceramic may be weaker, are ceramic bearings good for spindles? They'll undergo a lot of force, since the race I'm in lasts 160 laps (Purdue University's Annual Grand Prix). Due to ceramic bearings being more expensive, I wanted to make sure they'll last just as long as steel bearings before I purchase them. |

Ceramic bearings would be a complete waste of money in that application imho. I've driven karts hard for 10 years without changing spindle bearings.
You should be thinking to safety wire, cotter key and/or double nut every fastener on the kart for an endurance race.

Great, that's what I like to hear.
Yep, we're required to have nearly every bolt safety wired...it sure is fun drilling holes through Grade 8 bolts! |

| I feel your pain. Just use slow speed and hard pressure with a little cutting oil. |
