| My transponder is not holding it's charge anymore, did I hear correctly that they have an exchange program? If so, who do I contact and do they exchange transponders that were bought used? |

I believe if you send it to AMB they will change out the battery, try AMB-it.com, ask the company directly. _________________ birel. Nothing else will do. |

Yes, you can send in your old transponder and ask them to replace the battery, but they instead exchange the transponder. The charge is between $72.00 & $90.00 plus S & H, much less than a new transponder.
Send w/ a credit card # and Expiration date to: AMB 3200 Highlands Pkwy. Ste. 104 Smyrna, GA 30082 _________________ Keep on kartin' llb.

Teo,
AMB started selling a new style transponder in 2005. Of course, the old style is NOT compatable with the new style holder or charger. Last I checked, AMB had old Styles still available. Make sure to ask for the old style (pre 2005) if thats what you need.
FYI, the new style seems to have a much better battery as we typically get 5 strong green flashes and my old styles usually only had three green flashes. _________________ Straightaways are for fast karts, corners are for fast drivers.... |

Has anyone changed the battery themselves?? It is probably just a NiMH or NiCad pack. Don't have mine in front of me though....can the housing be disassembled using screws or is it case plastic welded?
I think that AMB is out of line charging that kind of coin to replace cells. |

| Mine dropped off on the length of charge, it was 5 blinks when I bought it (used) but now for some reason is only 3 blinks after 1 day of charging. I thought it must be a re-chargable battery that just needed to be changed so I opened the case. The whole inside is filled with some kind of silicone type filling, I couldn't even see the battery or any other parts. So it went back together and have been wondering how much it would cost to fix or if I would just have to get a replacement. |

| What is the usual cost to rent a transponder at a national event? I should've noticed I guess but amid the general orgy of check writing and general spending that went on at the two events we've attended, I didn't notice what they charged... if it is only $10 or so it seems like a worthwhile tradeoff if the battery only lasts a few years and has to be replaced at $100... |

IKF Region 7 charges $15.00 per class to rent a transponder. You could own your own in 5 races running 3 classes.

| I have taken mine apart and used a wire wheel to the side that the NiCad batt is on and found 3/ 1.5 volt cells I am also an avid model airplane flyer so this is typical battery replacement stuff. The reason I used a wire wheel is so that you can slowly wheel away the foam like glue that the battery is in without damaging the unit. I will go out and purchase the batts next week I don't epect to pay much more than 10.00 for the whole project. Jim |

Please keep us informed as to whether this works. My Mike said he is worried that the chip will be damaged in this process! _________________ Keep on kartin' llb.

| The new batts are installed and on charge as of a few hours ago and are up to 1 blink so far I will post the results tomorrow evening. All went pretty smoothly. Total cost 3.00 for 3= 1.2v 1/3 AA batt Ni Cad, 4.50 frt. Not too bad! |

Jim,
How did you re-seal it so that it would hold up to all the vibration, etc? _________________ Joe Rosse
