Entries are still streaming in from what I've been told by officials. EKN will have exclusive entry lists later this week in the previews to be published Wednesday or Thursday.

Good question Patrick.. It may be that wka chooses not to spend their money on marketing.. In my opinion, good marketing is the reason for the recent Rotax program success.. Keep in mind, wka just recently replaced their rotary phones in the office.

Hi Patrick,

If you are referring to our 'EKN Trackside Live' program, it is because we are limited to the number of events we can attend in a season. For 2013, we are attending all the events of the Rotax Challenge of the Americas, SKUSA Pro Tour, along with the Rock Island Grand Prix, the Streets of Lancaster Grand Prix and all of the United States Pro Kart Series events. With the support of these promoters and those who support our EKN Trackside Live program, we are able to bring live audio coverage in addition to our industry-leading race coverage.

We were traveling to the WKA Man. Cup races in years past. Unfortunately, due to our already busy schedule and other factors, we are not able to be trackside for these events. We do however publish ever race report and update that WKA provides for us in our NEWS section.

Usually we just feed Cole table scraps, but even he deserves a real meal once in awhile. Laughing

Seriously; its not free to get people to these events to report on things, but personally, I think its marketing money well spent to have top notch coverage for the racers, and the series.

So these other series are paying for the coverage?

Yes Patrick they are. The people that cover the races (and do a geat job) are much like yourself. They have to travel to the event, rent cars, eat , sleep in a hotel and make atleast three dollars per day. Sorta like any live sporting event in this world. So the answer is yes, the karting series that offer "live coverage" have expenses. Welcome to "yes, just because its karting doesnt mean one cant make a profit world".

Patrick,

While the USPKS series is something new for us in terms of the staff set-up, the events that we attend with our EKN Trackside Live program don't actually 'pay for the coverage'. I am brought in to do the play-by-play of the events, and the race reporting and coverage then becomes a value-added because we're now on-site. We don't charge for reports at all, and in fact, we often make our reports available to other media sources, like Go Racing Magazine.

That said, our approach to the streaming audio coverage on EKN Live is a win-win, because we then share the net profits from the commercial advertising with the organizations, much like other pro sports broadcasts do. We provide great exposure for the advertising partners and if all goes well, we defer much of the promoter's costs. For the USPKS, Randy Kugler is doing the announcing, so other than that, the promoter (Mark Coats) is not paying a thing to have us there. Our advertising revenue from the EKN Live sponsors will cover the costs for David to travel to the event. If we have a net profit, we'll cut Mark a check. In my eyes, that's badass.

Everything we try to do in this sport is focused on 'win-win'. We try to support any and all programs. If we can't be there, we're happy to run the race reports that are sent to us. In regards to the WKA, we worked with them a few years ago, but they currently have no interest in having us there. Buddy Long and I were working on something for the Man Cup series before he left, but since then, I haven't heard any interest from the WKA. They have built their own program, and we hope it provides them with what they are looking for. I know that we run all the Man Cup reports that come from Keith Shampine.

As for coverage and travel, Jim is bang on. Unlike a shop that makes money when it travels to events (or at least hopes to), it costs us $1500+ to attend ANY event (flights, rental car, hotel, airport parking and food). I've been a karting media publisher for 15 years now, and I can tell you that number is often the net profit for a month. We have to be smart, and build programs that work for everyone.

I know that we're thrilled to be able to work with partners like SKUSA, MaxSpeed, FTK Promotions/Challenge of the Americas, Rock Island and now the USPKS. When you each respect each other and focus on developing win-win relationships, it works.

I hope that everyone enjoys the EKN Live broadcast from Mooresville. You can thank our sponsors DRT Racing, Kartlift, Margay Racing and Kartsport North America for making it a reality.

Mark,
When I left Monday, we we're at 115 with only 6 to 8 drivers entered in more than one class. From memory Leopard 125 Pro had over 30. Entries we're still coming in as I was leaving.

I arrived yesterday afternoon and the place is amazing!!
One tip to get to the track, put Penske Racing shops in your GPS.
When you see a sign that tells you to turn right with an arrow saying .06 miles, don't turn there keep going straight for a little over a half a mile and MMX. Is on your left. WARNING do not turn into the ball fields, they are back off the road like MMX is, keep going and you will see a that says MMX NOW OPEN, congratulations you have found the track!

The timeline for the Event will be on e-karting later or go to the series website later this morning www.uspks.com. I forgot to got to send it to Greg to post it.

FYI - I did not set up the USPKS FaceBook site and don't control over the site and the my e-mail is wrong. My correct e-mail is mcoats.uspks@gmail.com and I can be reached at 217-652-6275.

There will be registration at the track Thursday afternoon.
Thank you to everyone supporting the NEW USPKS!
The hype is over and it is time for our team to show the karting community we are ready to go.
See you at the races,
Mark Coats

WKA IS providing Live coverage of all the 2013 Manufacturers Cup events. We've been streaming live audio & video as well as Race Monitor and a CoveritLive blog. Events are recorded and archived on my Youtube channel (alfakarl) for anyone to watch, with the exception of a few minutes at Daytona.....sorry Jim ;(

At Daytona David Cole asked if I could provide updates from the event on ekarting and at Kershaw would have done the same if I'd not been announcing, running the blog and switching cameras. And now that results are now part of Race Monitor, all you need is the app and a smartphone to get instant results.

I agree with Rob and he's spot on about costs just to get to and from an event. As for sponsorship or advertisements, that would for sure offset some costs and I'm sure Keith Shampine would entertain any offers. Not sure how WKA offsets the costs, but I'm sure the thousands of viewers who watch each event are glad to have the coverage.

Good luck everyone in Mooresville this weekend at USPKS, can't wait to visit the track for myself.
