Jason,
It is the same head - it was a brand new head we machined so both barbs were still in.
I always ran the Y-hose but I chose to get rid of that since there is no difference in cooling anyway and I wanted to put the outlet in the front of the engine to avoid hitting it with my elbow and to take care of the issue you bring up to euqalize flow. I guess that's how you guys did it as well. I think I took apart one of your mod engines once and I seem to recall that's how it was made...
In terms of machining it is not more expensive to do it as I did VS just making an outer O-ring groove - the macine doesn't care. It does require obviously that you hace a CNC milling machine and not just a simple lathe.
It only takes a few minutes to mill the groove - pretty easy. I would be happy share the CAD drawing with anyone that would want to replicate it.
Btw. I double checked tonight and I am running 6oz/gallon so I should be good there.
I hung out with a couple of guys tonight that I know you know very well Jason. They had exactly the same issues - their theory is fuel. They would love to move to this O-ring solution. They probably run 5-7 guys in the series. _________________ 2012 Formula Car Challenge Vice Champion (Pro Formula Mazda)

Does the O-ring head take into account the water flow and restrictions that the was engineered by Honda when using a stock head gasket?
|
No does not take into account the slowing down of the water through the head gasket.

I'm also very curious about the design of the outer o ring groove. How will this affect machining costs vs a simply round groove?
|
No need to have copper washers under the head nuts if the above design is used as opposed to a simple outer oring groove.
HRC used simple oring groove for their standard RS250 with copper washers.
JHA used this design groove for their A kit RS250.
The inner oring will chew out from the combustion chamber outwards and also stretch in size if not replaced regularly. _________________ www.samzavaglia.com |

oh yea cause honda made a heap of water cooled 2 stroke farm bikes didn't they ? Name one ?
Wouldn't call a mx or crm trail bike exactly ideal for rounding up cattle and fixing fences.
Unless your farming feral emu's or something. |

Ohh my god Tim......you just couldn't help yourself......not again.
Cost me less than $400 to replace the CR125 crankshaft for all brand new OEM assembly, gaskets, seals, bearings etc.......after 3000 race miles on it in Stock Honda spec, it was still fine.
I wonder how this topic is going to end _________________ www.samzavaglia.com |

Not quite.....RS250 has 7 studs, RS250 A-kit has 6 studs. _________________ www.samzavaglia.com |

Wow, what have I been missing out on??????????
Vice champion mechanical engineer----he probably really understands water flow/ heat transfer/ bolt/stud torque issues/ exhaust gas temps/ flame fronts/
also since he's been vice champion of some crap car racing , using downshifting to slow down , doesn't realize that using engine braking in a 2 cycle gets you excessive rpms with NO oiling of the engine(unless you have a Heger Spraque)
and 5 - 7 contestants?????????? practice and change heads???????? |

I'm still trying to figure out by changing the head gasket design how that fixes the detonation from the crappy fuel?

I think we may agree to some form of that statement. I have good reason to believe it does work indeed. Good thing is it is very easy to test and I will do so this weekend. It will be even easier to tell if it gets worse like you claim. It will not give us the full truth in one day of testing but we will have an indicator Monday for sure. _________________ 2012 Formula Car Challenge Vice Champion (Pro Formula Mazda)

I got one of these
I don't even check tire pressure!!!!
If it doesn't deto with your setup, it leaves the door wide open to lean it till it does, because now you don't have a head gasket to pop.

First off I am a farm boy------------
and the only goal that I didn't achieve in life was becoming a astronaut altho I probably could be labeled a VICE ASTRONAUT----------(probably have flown higher altitude than most on here)
I solved head gasket problem by cutting cylinder for a stainless wire oring groove so as to press into stock type gasket, ran the head orintainted the same way the HONDA engineers designed it and with 2 outlets used out of the head--We didnot drain the coolant to change pistons or rings so we wouldn't have to burb the system and that way our complete system stayed full of coolant without any air introduced into it------- |
