I am wondering where I can get info about autocross/solo in the Maryland DC area. I do roadracing but would like to look into autocross. Can someone direct me in the right direction,,,, _________________ http://mancaveracing.com

Lucky for you Brian Garfield lives in that area. He's got a few solo trophies as does the rest of his family. _________________ Arrow AX-8/ Rotax Sr. |

Hey Mike,
As my kids have only run 1 year, I am in no way an "authority" on this, but here is some info to help get you started. My kids (9 and 7) ran last year and are already looking forward to running this year.
You can watch http://www.wdcr-scca.org/SoloAutocross/tabid/56/Default.aspx for info...
WDCR = Washington DC Region
They usually offer a couple of autocross schools in the spring and into the summer. Though I don't know if karts can run in the school with the cars. They also usually offer one training/school session for the Junior Karts. In the schools, they go over everything about the autcross from the time you arrive to the actual driving.
From the web site, as of right now, you can look at the Current Results link on the left to see the dates and the results. Looking at the results you can get a feel for the number of entrants in each class.
Kart Modified is for adults
Junior Kart A is for kids 12-18
Junior Kart B is for kids 8-11
Junior Kart C is for kids 5-7
There are some rules about the transition year from JB to JA.
We run in the parking lot of FedEx field.
As this is a volunteer run organization, you have to work to run.
From the SCCA web site http://www.scca.com/solo/content.cfm?cid=44517 is a link to the draft 2013 Solo Rules.
Section 19, which provides the rules for karts is missing from the table of contents
19.1 Kart Modified starts on page 153
19.2 Formula Junior starts on page 157
For safety reasons, they have all the karts part in a designated area.
It is a relaxed atmospher, and everyone is always willing to lend a hand or provide information.
Let me know if you have any other questions. |

Thanks Keith for the info and site, I am thinking of trying it and getting kids to come. I tried kart roadracing with son but he did not like traveling with me for 3-4 days, go figure. So as long as I still have to many karts I was thinking of taking the shifters and tags out and see if I can get him back into it since it appears to be a one day race. Also thank for email and I will get intouch with you when we get closer to the season. Thanks for info that should get me started.... _________________ http://mancaveracing.com
