|
|
I have seen a few videos of very powerful electric karts on youtube.com . Does anyone here know the recipe for building one of these ? Fork lift motor ? Golf cart motor ? Battery weight ? I just want to build one to say I have it. But, I want it to boil the tires !
thanks,

A group of electric karts participated in a recent Redline Oil series race:

I suspect Steve Cameron (the promoter) can put you in touch with some folks in that group. |

Mike,
I have one that we had for evaluation for our indoor track. It's for sale on my web site http://ultra-kart.com/rentalkarts.aspx
I could provide some pictures with the body work off. _________________ Dave Lehmann

Red Line Oil Karting Championship will actually be running a full season Spec electric kart class in 2013. |

Electric pocketbikes have pushed the power to weight ration for electric racing in our weight range higher than it might otherwise be. Hot setup seemed to be a min. 48V system driven by a programmable controller and Briggs ETek motor... Brushless and LiPo's are probably the way to go unless you can find a reasonable hydrogen fuel cell system. I wonder how the Google JuiceBox or whatever it was would work... _________________ Owner, www.hamiltonhelmets.com // UAS Racer #76 // Karting for karting's sake...keep it fun! |

I saw a mini bike towing a Jr Dragster at the track. The mini bike had a standard Burris electric starter with a gear on the shaft and a chain run to the rear sproket. There was just an on-off button. Looked like fun. _________________ Began kart racing 1959. Made many friends along the way. |

That Linde E1 looked really fast and it had the weight where I would expect the weight to be (i.e. not hanging 40lbs behind the rear axle) the only thing that caught my eye in the spec sheet was the 160kg of weight EXCLUDING the driver. Thats ~352 lbs. Isn't that rather heavy for a kart without a driver?
Add the average 150lb racing driver and you are up to 502lbs. How much is that going to take away from a kart in transitional sets and linked multiple corners (a track like Grange for example).
Granted it did accelerate incredibly fast off the line so I'm sure corner exit in this thing would make up for some of the added weight, especially in tight corners where you have instant torque.
Thoughts? |
