|
|
Hi folks, i am new to the karting world but not to new to racing " raced TZ yamaha's many moons ago. lol.
my son 12yrs old is starting out next year in the FKCS in March, we have a Top Kart with the Sonik VX 125 TAG engine, we are all good to go but need a 30mm exhaust header so he can use the kart in JR races. i know i will need a replacment engine but wanted to see how he does before laying out the money fro a new engine package. We have had lots of track time in Ocala & Orlando where the Kart has been very reliable & very quick.
Can anybody help in locating the restricted header.
Thanks very much

Marty Casey might be able to point you in the direction of one. You should be able to PM him via this site. I don't know if the restrictor is specific to the Sonik. I suspect it might be a similar piece for the leopard and soforth, but don't quote me on that.
You could also try tsracing.com or reikins racing out2win.com.
If you find yourself at a dead end after this, post back.. _________________ CES Grattan pre-entry is open. TaG, Shifter, KPV, KT100, Animal\LO206, enduro or superkart.

Just so you know the VX is more for Road(long tracks) racing. The TX is for sprint racing. This engine may not be legal at some tracks.
TS racing sold Sonik engines for many years. Not many parts around for Sonik engines as they are not making them anymore. I wouldnt sink money in this engine. If anyone can help it will be TS.
Go with a Leopard if thats what your leaning towards. |

Thanks very much Jeff, the kart was gifted to my son so we jus wanted to get as much use from the Sonik engine as poss. It had been more than competitive at both Orlando & Ocala. Of course my son loves it because its so fast. We both know its not a long term engine but to get 6 races with a $100.00 header would be great.
Leopard or IAME X30 is want we will look for later.
Thanks again |

The Sonik gets a lot of flack but I like it. I think people are upset becuase it promised a lot and then they kinda got screwed for support.
to keep it going you can use leopard pistons, seals, small end and main bearings. I think the VX is an 18mm crankpin so you could use the bearings found in a lot of 100cc motors from ICA, parilla reedjet etc etc. Stuff like clutches and drums might be more of a challenge, but we found the Maxter KF drums work with a little machining on the inside so I'm sure lots of others would work too.
You could also try Randy Pierson at GPI racing for a header. He might be able to fab something up with the 30mm insert. _________________ CES Grattan pre-entry is open. TaG, Shifter, KPV, KT100, Animal\LO206, enduro or superkart.
