Is open shifter open tire?
There's 5-6 of us that might consider running a round of the SKUSA midwest series if we can run our Hoosier tires. No interest in buying over $1K of MGs to run a single race. Nothing against MG, great tire but Hoosier is what our group runs. _________________ GPI Racing | WildKart | Maxter | Hoosier

Paul in the Midwest there are already grids of 30+ in an open shifter format with CES. The mix is probably somewhere around Its probably 55% KZ/ICC, 40% Mod or non CR moto and 5% stock. Granted its considered a "road race" series but that's where the entries are right now.
Gunna be hard to convince these drivers that they have to run different tires and spend bigger bucks "just cuz its a SKUSA" race. _________________ GPI Racing | WildKart | Maxter | Hoosier

| Jim, I think the point is a lot of people were bashing skusa for discontinuing G1. Now skusa is making an attempt to give them a chance to get it back and a lot of people have problems with dates and tires and well its just Skusa. Clearly, if people want it back at snats, the class has to be supported at the regional level first. I think it's awesome that ces has big fields; but they don't have supernats. If you want G1 back at snats you have to support the series. If you don't care either way, that's just fine too. |

I, personally don't really have a problem with it going away at the supernats perse. Of course I prefer to watch G1 or race it over S4, or DD2 sure. But my real beef, along with others was the reasoning given behind the culling of the class, the followed by the introduction of, DD2, where I think in some kind of way, BRP intended the 2 to represent the number of entries, rather than gears.
Considering one can count the amount of stock motos on your fingers in these parts I'd say SKUSA having an open shifter class is an exercise in damage limitation, rather than an attempt from SKUSA to bring G1 "back".
Don't get me wrong, I'm happy that SKUSA midwest are making an effort to appeal to the drivers up in this area, its a good thing. But to go on and read this as SKUSA making an attempt to bring back G1 doesn't pass my BS meter.
Not sure what you mean by CES "not having the supernats". For most classes, you don't need it. A few CES drivers have turned up over the years SKUSA seemed OK with it. _________________ GPI Racing | WildKart | Maxter | Hoosier

| You're right Jim. Skusa never said it was an attempt to bring G1 back. I just see a big opportunity for all of the G1 guys to make a statement if they so choose. I find it hard to believe that Skusa wouldn't at least consider bringing it back if they had large fields at the regional level. All I see is constant complaining about G1 or the lack thereof and no one puts their money where there mouth is. |

The open class was in the SKUSA Midwest series last year and has always been there in the Great Lakes series. If you believe that 10 KZ entries in the midwest will get G1 back your delusional. The only way that would happen is if it happened in CA. G1 had 30 or more entries normally in G1 right up to its last year. It was taken off the supernats due to time constraints but we find out this year that was not the case. The worst attended class in the states took its place.
Once you take a class off a schedule it never really comes back. _________________ http://bridgemanbroskarting.blogspot.com/

You are exactly right Keith.
When a non kart engine (dirt bike) takes over the #1 spot in U.S. shifter, you can only assume the end is near for KZ on a national level in. Sad that the 'establishment' has to pay the KZ guys to get a venue for the motos to have a national race. Personally I wouldn't walk down to the corner to watch a moto pollute the air. As I said on my face book, driving a moto is same as having sex with a corpse .... if you've got a choice. Crude but true. _________________ Tom Barth
