What are the advantages of a mychron 3/4 over the 2?
Is the mychron 2 compatible with race studio 2? seems like no. Am I still able to download race studio and run it on a modern computer?
Can I connect it to my computer with a serial to usb adapter?
Are the temperature sensors, lap time receiver compatible with the mychron 3/4
Is there anywhere I can get instructions guidelines on how to install/operate?
thanks. |

From a distant memory
The first iterations of RS2 supported the Mychron 2, I used to have the last version that did but it has long gone
USB to serial adapters sre a bit of a challenge and require good drivers to make them work
All the temp sensors are the same, the connectors do vary though.
Without the software it is pointless trying to find instructions/operating manuals. The best that could be said about them was they were fairly poor, worse than todays and they aren't great either.
Buy a used M3, the Gold and Extreme were very capable and leave nothing to be desired, in fact the only advantage the M4 has is canbus for easier expansion and GPS can be hooked up to it. For DA in a sprint kart you don't need anything newer than an M3, The M4 is no faster in sampling and you get no more channels in the basic version. Perhaps the dash is better but it never struck me that way, I preferred the M3 dash even though the M4 is configurable to some extent. In fact for the car/bike loggers AIM have recently introduced a dash that is a big brother to the M3.
Buy a used one, send it to AIM and let them check it over, you won't regret it. _________________ understeer happens on road courses and usually is pronounced with a British accent. Push happens on ovals and usually is pronounced through a wad of chew. Other than that, I don't think there's a difference - Jim Derrig

| There are still downloads on the AIM site. It requires a more primitive downloader, but it is possible to download and run on the Race Studio. It is still good enough for some basic info, if it still works |

The Mychron 3 and 4 have a much better way to download information, and the drivers for the 3 and 4 can work with most windows platforms.

We still have available for download software version 2.16.04, which I will provide a link to later, for the download of the Mychron2. Unfortunately finding a serial port on the PC becomes very difficult and adding serial communication to USB ports can be complicated. The drivers will only work with a windows XP system so the PC will have to run XP.

the connections will be different but the sensors are the same.

I do not believe we ever made an online document for this. I will have to look through some archived material before I can answer this properly.
thanks. |
You can find links to our legacy software at http://aimsports.com/software/index.html
