So what is the format for racing now? A v B, C v D? etc? similar to SuperNats where you use the same qualifying spot throughout?

or is it something different?

Tim,

You are correct. The drivers will now be split into A-B-C-D groups and will race against each other in three heat races. We just got a confirmation that it will now be the top 30 to transfer directly to Saturday and the Prefinal / Final events, while the next 36 will run in the Last Chance Qualifiers. The top-six from these races will qualify into the mains on Saturday. Anyone outside the top 66 after the heat race points will be done for the week.

Curtis,

Weather is expected to be cool and clear for Thursday, Saturday and Sunday, with temperatures in the high-50s. The winds are pretty stiff and will certainly elevate the importance of the draft. The only ugly day is Friday, which now has a 60% chance of rain. With the cool temperatures, it could be wild and uncomfortable, especially considering the fact that its the final heat and the LCQs that day.

EKN Trackside: Thursday Morning Update

It's race time here in Portugal as the three rounds of heat races are set to begin today. Each driver will have two heats today, followed by the final heat tomorrow. The weather today is sunny, with less wind, allowing the drivers to show quicker times in warm-up than yesterday's qualifying session that probably saw around 20mph headwinds up the long straight.

The first round of heats will be Group A vs. B, C vs. D followed by A vs. C, B vs. D. Here are the Group and Row starting spots for Team USA:

Junior Max:
Askew - B9
Correa - D8
Rogero - C14
Ferrucci - A10

Senior Max:
Beasley - C7
DeLaO - B3
Formal - C8
Pagano - A6
Palmer - D15

DD2 Masters:
Crow - C10
Lester - A13
Rudolph - A4
Martinelli - C9
Blair - B7
Jones - D10

DD2:
Hodgson - B2
Wimsett - C3
Leesmann - C11 - new cylinder after qualifying
Vorndran - D14
