Anyone have one of these? Any input? This is a new ICC shifter with electric start.

Bill,
$5600 with free shipping maybe less if I was looking harder. How much is a stock moto if you aren't actually capable of building it yourself? I'm not saying it is the end all, however, I find your argument lacking. I for one as a gentleman "hobby racer" like the idea of a self starting kart. I've also bought 3 complete karts in the last 6 months, a trailer, tools, and numerous parts. That's what keeps the "machine" running is it not?
This engine has less peak HP than a moto, but a broader powerband. If I were to decide to leave TAG and join the moto guys who are banging gears around our tiny local track, this engine would be a strong consideration.
Now if you had said, "it's the same starter as the Leopard, and the Bendix will break making the self start useless most of the time" I would have upvoted your post... Oh wait I'm not on Reddit... Sorry ignore that upvote part.

While I am still somewhat of a newb in the karting scene, I am apaulled by the insanely high prices of some of the equipment. The Italian engines are the ugliest part of the high pricing, but there are others. The Japanese motos can be purchased used for under a grand. I am not bashing the product, just the high prices. Incidentally, used F500 engines can be bought between $250 and $1000. This kart stuff has gotten way out of hand. _________________ Bill Schmidt

Because F600 is about to make the F500 stuff into boat anchors... _________________ Jason Vehige

Sorry Jason, but that aint gonna happen. The restrictors and weight penalties will make that not happen. Doesnt matter whether you are talking 2 or 4 strokes it aint happening. Besides, I have seen many 600 engines for less than a grand. _________________ Bill Schmidt

If you're not going to go fast, a cheap engine can always be purchased.
Bill, you're kidding yourself if you think a national level motor in a kart or a F500 is going to be a grand. I personally know what went into the national champions F125 solo motor, and it wasn't $1000!!!! And if you bought an ebay Rotax 500, by the time Q went through it, and you got a clutch and pipe on it, you know you got some cash into it....
I do however agree with you that most of the Italian stuff is way over priced, including the chassis, but it is what it is.
You want to go fast, how much $$$$ do you have?

I completely agree about the high prices in karting in general. However you can buy a used Italian ICC engine for $1500 dollars, so that isn't that much more costly than a used Japanes moto engine. The only ones that you will find for prices that low seem pretty beat anyway. |

Apples and oranges there. Why compare a brand new motor against a series of used ones? Brand new stock moto package ready to bolt on is $5000 and up I'd hardly call that cheap. Kit is over $3000 by the time it's ready to rock + your time to mount it. Used stock moto is $2500 up used KZ as low as $1200 used. Most moto stuff under a grand is hit and miss.
It would be nice if there were more places for people to run their motos (or any 125cc reed valve shifter) that they have spent the time to convert to running on a kart, would allow more opportunity for people to get their feet wet before committing to a more expensive package. Luckily up here in the midwest you can do just that. Run an old moto, newer moto, stock moto, ICC or KZ. Whatever you manage to get the best deal on, whatever you are comfortable with. Other places not so much, it's "stock moto" or forget about banging gears. _________________ CES Grattan pre-entry is open. TaG, Shifter, KPV, KT100, Animal\LO206, enduro or superkart.

Jim,
It's "Stock Moto" or nothing on high level racing. I do not believe any local club/track would turn away a mod moto / icc.... |
