Keith, the Dellorto pump has an internal bypass of some kind. I don't think the Mikuni has that.

Can you use the Dellorto with a standard Keihin carb that still has the floats?

YES!

Mike G.

What's your demon tweek there Mike?
I just tried the Dellorto pump that everyone seems to be talking about last weekend on standard PWM, no float level change, no needle/seat change, straight out of the Keihen box. All I did was set the main jet, slide needle and pilot jet to my settings.
Since the Dellorto pump has only 1 output, I needed to 'T' that off so 1 went to the carb and other returned to tank with no restriction.
Without the 'T' it blew the needle/seat straight away on the kart stand.
With the 'T' it seemed to work on the stand but it still blew the needle/seat during racing on track very slightly through the bowl overflow tube as captured into my overflow bottle.

So come on, tell us your tweek......are you slightly lowering your float level from factory PWM setting or running a long pulse line to help reduce pressure.

Where are you mounting your Dellorto pump?

I need to try something for my next outing.
Cheers mate.

BTW, which pump won most of the Vegas races this year?

(i) Mikuni
(ii) Octo-mum
(iii) Dellorto

Not trying to start a shitfight here, just asking as I was not there to see for myself. Crying or Very sad

S1-Swedetech GFS (aka octo pump/voodoo) first through fourth, may be more, not sure what Toft and the other guys were running

S4- Swedetech GFS (aka octo pump/voodoo) first through fourth

I think it was a SRS in the kids class and the pump Mikes talking about won the s2 class. Not sure how it was plumed (and I doubt Mike does either Wink).

Thanks for reply Jimmy.
So it seems the ST GFS is on a lot of the front running karts.

perhaps a bit of a ratio matters...
let me highlight that MRC - not only made their debut at the world premier SuperNats...they did so with only TWO (2) drivers...one of them won the S2 class...and this may or may not matter, but his qualifying time was faster than all, including S1.
Goebel knows the pump they use, i think the cheap $30 one he keeps referring.
I will say that Billy had assistance...Travis Irvin provide superb tuning for him!!!

The Dellorto pump Billy uses is mounted between his legs behind the tank.

Thanks Steve.

So unless his engine is also mounted between his legs and behind the tank, there must be a long length of pulse line there. Might have to give that a try. Wink
Anyone got photos on the orientation in which it's mounted?

On another note, why are Dellorto pumps refered as under $30 pumps when they are in the 40's?
Under $30 pump to me would refer to as the Mikuni pump.... Confused

Sam...you should really check out the MRC set up...probably one of the cleanest/simple I have seen...how they mount the cdi box along with the coil thing...very clean and minimizes chances of having coil issues...and the pump also looks pretty clean...don't know how to post pictures; otherwise, I would.

Thanks Alex.
We are really getting Stock Moto moving in Australia now and I share ALL information to fellow competitors freely so it attracts more into our sport.
Please email pics to sam@samzavaglia.com and I'm happy to post them up on your behalf or keep them secret....your choice since you supply them.

Cheers,

Sam

Sam - the good thing about MRC is that those guys don't care - sharing or not. They are very much open and very much welcoming. They keep attracting new guys to karting, sounds like you are doing the same. The Musgraves (MRC) just make the whole experience much more pleasant, good fun, yet compeititve packages/support, etc... Here in Southern California, I have seen a couple of guys (4 so far and 2 in-process) that are making the switch or made the switch in the last 2 months or so. Quite amazing the support. I should get you guys connected - will shoot you email later. And will try to take pictures over the weekend as they are working on it at this time. MRC also builds a number of parts that are simply superb (i.e. water hoses...radiator...etc...), you guys should definitely get in touch.

Yes, long pulse line. Its sits very low and is attached to the pan bolt tab just behind the tank and is sitting flat or horizontal.

This is where I normally run the Mikuni pump to good success but it does blow the needle/seat to make a little bit of a mess, not that bad and the kart runs well at 100% of the time, at all tracks, short and long.

Now since that last weekend was the first time I ran the Dellorto pump, at a race meeting without any prior test, I ran it high with short pulse line just to ensure enough fuel supply. As I said, it still just blew the closed needle/seat and slight over flow in the bottle.

Next I'll try a long pulse line and also make the fuel pump uphill a long way, similar to what it sounds like MRC is doing.

Cheers guys.

My engines all come from Sharkshifter. Many others down under also deal with Mike.
They all run very good and we get awesome service and support from Mike which is important when we are located on the ass end of the world. Laughing
