do you have to use rotax packing for exhaust or can you use any type of packing made for dirtbikes for example?

If you're under Rotax rules, then yes, you do. Otherwise, I would consult your club's/series' rules and regs.
Most ATV and dirtbike packing is about the same price, though some are lower. Unless you can get specifics about what their typical application is, I would be concerned about the rate of their burn-out. What's the point of spending less if you have to change it out more frequently?

yeah that makes sense......I'm the only one running a rotax at our local club races and the other guys give advice but don't know anything bout the rotax package......this forum has been awesome for a beginner to get the basics and i appreciate that.

The price difference between the Rotax packing and something else has to be minimal. Not wore the trouble of trying, use the regular stuff and spend the time and money on track time.
