I guess I didn't catch that part of the rules.
Kinda a shame you can't use the most basic clutch out there....
Wish I could say I'm going but with the drought people haven't been breaking their mowers much this year

| We are currently at around 20 entries in this class. The first 25 to register get in for $25 registration fee thanks to support from Briggs & Stratton. After that, the regular $125 fee applies until August 17. |

David, I never put too much thought into a chain guard. I just use whatever I have in stock, usually a sheetmetal piece available from most mailorder shops. Often I have to add an extension to cover the chain better if the driver is on the outside(my normal sprint kart set up ).There is one available that is slightly wider and covers the chain without any addition. I don't know of anyone that stocks them except me.
When I race my World Formula ( my normal class ) I use the Chain Guard Plus from Faster Motors. It really adds strength to the block. _________________ I breathe ,therefore,I race |

Clutch question....got a Max Torque clutch, but it did not come with a washer to insert first...I assume I need that washer otherwise it will be an issue? Also, which direction is best to mount, inboard or outboard?...I think I have room for either. _________________ David Cole

I mount mine with the sprocket outboard. But that's just me. Whatever works. I've never had a problem.
I don't believe a washer comes with the clutch. I add washers to get about .060 play for the clutch as is recommended in the Max Torque instructions ( on line ) _________________ I breathe ,therefore,I race |

Thanks Bernie. I have the washer that came with a World Formula we have on the bench. I'm thinking of just using that washer. _________________ David Cole

The GEM long chain guard works great on both mine. Also, the clutch needs to be locked on the shaft, if not you are going to tear up the key way on the crank after time. I know it sounds crazy, but take it from me ! Mine both started to "wallow" out until I did ! I use the washer designed for it and then torque the bolt to 180 Inch lbs. Thats what most 8mm bolts (5/16) torque to , so I figured it it would work on these and it does. I put the washer on, then the clutch, then a large, thick flat washer followed by a Belleville washer and then the bolt with a dab of Blue Loctite on it. Works like a charm. Anyone using a Stinger should replace the key about every two race days just to be sure. I bought keystock and make my own. They fit nice and tight !
As far as the clutches go, the list is short of what you can use. But the Noram GE and Stinger work very well. I have a Stinger on both of mine. As for inboard or outboard, I prefer inboard due to stress on the crank shaft. Dont want any if possible. I do know that with some sprint karts there isnt much choice though. _________________ Racing is a State of Mind ! ... A very nice state to be in ! |

Thanks Jeff. Your ride looks great and hope to use you for a rabbit in practice so I know if I'm fast or slow. We are using the Max Torque clutch. Have everything I think I need, aside from making a chain guard, to have this thing ready. Hope to get it on track next week or the week leading up to RIGP. Should be fun.
How many of the 20+ entries do you think are running CIK bodywork? I hope most. _________________ David Cole

I know the guys from my area are all using CIK. I have a nose but the heck with it ! LOL, As far as clutch goes, The max torque is not legal ! It has 6 shoes. Maximum is 3 ,I recommend a Stinger _________________ Racing is a State of Mind ! ... A very nice state to be in ! |
