Let me know what you think,,, A lot of work to create, Some things still dont work (Lap counter, best lap, current lap and braking indicator).
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F3Htf2vKllw
Was not the best run of the day. Best lap in session was 40.94, vs best of day 40.74, vs best ever 40.70.

Pretty cool, your using the mychron gps and a gopro.? What software are you using to overlay the data. I had some software to do it. But I could never get the data and the video lined up exactley, the g force and rpm would always be off just a little in relation to when they were happening in the video. I forget the name of the software I had.
Btw, where's your gloves? |

Chuck:
Yes, GoPro HD, but Video is reduced considerably from HD quality. Almost makes no sense to shoot in HD s it take to long to process and then you publish in lower resolutuon anyway.
Yes it is a AIM Mychron4 with GPS. I've been taking lap time S/F from GPS, I think I am going to switch to using a standard beacon. Using GPS, if you don't drive over the same S/F point precisely (Like passing or beign passed) it does not register the end of the lap.
I use RaceRender, less the $40.
There are 3 packages that do the same. Best may be TrackVision, that is about $140. I think it can prcess the large files better and faster, but not going to spend the money until I am convianced it is of value. There is Dashware, also about $40. The big downside is support from RaceRender. Unlike the other two they don't have a forum to share info and guage packages. For example TrackVision comes with a Mychron 4 Graphic out of the box.
Syncing is a bit of a hassle. I figured syncing would be easy. Sync with the start of the engine or start moving, but it is trial and error. I ended up syncing with lift/braking on first lap at end of straight.
Gloves... Yea, in a rush I left them back at the trailer drying off.

This is not typical. The M4/GPS provides a radius that allows the system to pass near the coordinate value you have stored in the data logger for the start/finish line.
I can only think you have established a coordinate value not near the driving line and on your normal driving line you are just catching the edge of the line and when you move farther away, you miss the coordinate you have stored.
I suggest you re-install a new GPS coordinate on the driven line of your track and you will get consistent and accurate laptimes when crossing the line at any part of the track. _________________ Thanks!

Hey - Roger. Thanks for the feedback. When are you coming back east for another-one of your fine seminiars? I attanded the one you did at NJMP.
The coordiante I selected is the apex of a corner I nail almost all the time. When I drive, I get a proper time 95% of the time. Only when I go off-line (Passing someone) in that corner will it not read.
When I put others in my Kart it's 50/50 wither I get a time or not. What do you suggest, better tp do this on a corner apex or down straight section on track?
The track has a built in beacon, which is always on. Any downside to using the beacon for S/F instead of GPS? _________________ Ambrose Buldo - AKA Racer27

I would bring one of your tests into the GPS Manager software from AiM and look at where you are passing by that corner vs your S/F line coordinate. I still think this may be your issue.
Regarding having your beacon location in a corner or on a straight, it should make no difference to the M4/GPS.
A few more things I would check is to make sure your GPS antenna has a clear view to the sky and is mounted as upright as possible (can be hard on a kart but do your best) and also make sure your hands, arms, legs, etc are not blocking the GPS signals from getting to the antenna when cornering hard.
Finally, I can also help solve the issue if you export one of the affected tests and email all of the files to me. _________________ Thanks!

Something doesn't sound right, with our ActionCam Racer Package (720HD, dual camera and Data) it renders a 20-25 minute race in about 80 minutes. You can check out the video here Of course if you computer is not up to the task your mileage may vary.
I have heard from someone that it has to do with the file format of the GoPro. Our ActionCam creates a direct .MOV file. No need to convert back and forth.
