Without everyone getting into another BBS brawl can someone explain what a deep seat is and what advantages it offers over a conventional kart seat?

Charlie can be reached at 1-888-229-0100
or frearseat@aol.com
He is very supportive and goes way out of his way to help out a fellow karter. Man, as I'm (still) going through my rib/back issues he calls just to see 'whats up'
Also there a photo of a Deep at SpeedWorx in Tx. By the way, Sam from SW has also sent me some gear and is a very cool guy to deal with.

Good luck man. May your ribs be your best friend

I would like to know a little more informations on the deepseat and the ribtect seat. I know that they are similar because of the latest post on these forum and on the older forum. Is there just these two manufacturers? Is it a trademarked item and can not be duplicated. Can both of these companies exist and profit in the current markets.
Ps I do not want to start another fight or get my post erased again so keep it on subject pls.

well your question probably will start a fight and I am sure that my answer won't help things either.
I have a Ribtect seat and I love it. I am sure that the Deepseat is good as well. I like the Ribtect seat. It provides TONS of traction and allows the frame to work VERY well. It took me a bit to get it positioned right but I am sure that my problem had more to do with my height (6'4") more than anything. I don't think that you could go wrong with either but the quality of the CARBON FIBER layup on the ribtect is great and Robbie's customer service is AWESOME.. When he heard through the grapevine that I was having a problem with my kart's handling he called me several times always checking on me until I got it right. From what I have heard the guy at Deapseat is also helpful but I am very happy with Ribtect's support. Besides the carbon fiber just looks great.
As for the trademark/copyright thing, I think that you mean patent as trademark's have more to do with a specific logo, name, typestyle, or presentation??? Well who knows. Anyone that knows anything about patents will tell you that unless you have a bunch of money to defend them they are worth about the same as the paper that the certificate is printed on. I know that there is currently no patent on either seat and I have not seen a patent pending issuance number or either companies advertising so I guess that there isn't even a TRUE pending patent status on any wrap around seat design. It gets even more complicated since both products are currently to market and generaly available. I also think that there is no validatable proof of who actually came up with the idea anyway. I guess it depends on what side of the fence that you hear the story from. I guess that you will just have to make up your own mind on that one. I have heard all of the retoric and I think I have a clear picture of what happened, however you know what they say about opinions. :-)
However karting is really a niche market and both companies that are providing what seems to be the next generation of karting seat can and will be profitablebut only if they do what is most important. They both keep doing their homework and improving their product, as well as providing first rate customer service.
Remember that both Phillips and GE sell alot of light bulbs. If you are courious about the seats I would say that you should get one, they are great. My recomendation is to get the Ribtect as that is what I am familiar with.

| Rick, I have limited experience in karting so I may not know the ins and out of the different seats but I can tell that the deepseat is the most comfortable seat I have been in and I have sat in them all. The seat is designed to wrap around your rib cage so that you don't have pinpoint contact with your ribs. I have spent an entire day practicing without my ribvest (I left it at home) and had NO pain during practice or the next day. The seat is pretty flexible so it seems to allow the chassis to work for you but the seat could be stiffened up if necessary. Hope this info helps and if you would like I can take some digital pics of my seat and email them to you. |

| Here we go again... I have a Deepseat and love it, and Charlie's support is second to none. I also have a Ribtect rib belt and love it, but it isn't as necessary as it used to be. Would definitely recommend the seat- no harder to mount than a regular fiberglass seat. |
