Mega Kart Rubig

J R from Kartracertv.com mounted two camera's on the Mega Kart and right after the races were finished on Sunday Jim Holloway, VP of Mothers Polish and sponsor of the event, drove the kart. He managed to break the track record for the whole week in 6 laps.

J R is going to put together a video about the Mega engine and it should be up on his website soon.

The Mega engine by Rubig SMOKES the track record at the SKUSA Supernats!!

Rubig!!

I had the honor of driving this kart yesterday at IMI motorsports in Colorado. (Thanks Brad). I drove it right off the track into the weeds. (Sorry Brad).

It is an incredible ride. I did some calc's and found it to have the same power/weight ratio of a 911 GT2 ($250,000).

Vibration is there, but nothing to worry about. The low end torque is incredible and the speed is very difficult to gauge. I entered nearly every corner too fast.

some numbers (IMI, 1mile sprint)
'average' CR125: 55 sec
Top CR125 qualifier: 51 sec
Fastest ICC (Pavesi): 49.6 sec (Old track record)
Rubig: 48 sec so far.

How fast will thing go with a 'pro' driver?

Brad has one on the floor, ready to go. Who wants one?

Better question, why did it get posted here in the first place? You would think the manufacturer would know the difference Rolling Eyes

If they really want to promote it the 4-cycle section is about the worst place they could pick Laughing

Yes, this post should be moved and the person who started this thread is not the manufacturer.
Ray, you must react very quickly and be super smooth to handle the power of this engine or it will get away from you in a millisecond! At least you were not too scared to give it some throttle.
The Rubig Mega is the most powerful production kart engine ever built and combine that with its light weight you end up with the fastest kart on any track. At $5500 for the package it is a great buy too!

i would love to visit Denver, and would be keen to try the Rubig , but unless there is a steak available..i know i would go hungry !!
How do you figure the Rubig would compare against a 250 racing somewhere like Laguna ??

I would not drive the Mega after eating a steak but you may not be able to eat one after driving it for a few hours. We can have the dinner after your stomach has returned to its normal position.
I owned a 250 Rotax and to be honest it had no torque, only huge HP and was very difficult to drive as the power was not balanced. It was either spinning the tires or bogging out on a shorter track and was only drivable on a long track with large radius corners. If you let out the clutch below 10,000 rpm it died and was only fast on wide open straights.
Without the gears, a long track like Laguna would be hard to gear for but for but I am sure the Mega would give any 250 shifter a run for its money. One any track shorter it will not be beat. 90% of the tracks in the world you will have the fastest lap time buy a second or more no problem.
The mega has huge torque, you don't have to shift, its always in the right gear which makes it very enjoyable to drive. My track is a mile long with a 700 ft straight, I have geared it to do 125mph at 8500rpm which you get to 3/4 the way down which is where you want to hit the brakes.

After reading the specs I'm not all that impressed. The motor is huge displacement so the power it makes is pretty much run of the mill for that large a 2 cycle race motor.

I had a little interest for unlimited racing but it's even too big for UAS standards where you can already run the Aixro (which is technically a 4 stroke btw).

IMHO, this kind of motor is only of interest to guys who have too much testosterone and too little driving skill. Since it will never be adopted for a race class it's only real use will be track days for rich guys. Just let me know when they'll be out there and I'll stay home to watch F1 on the Tivo Laughing
