The official wording from the JULY 2001 KN issue is:

Inupt from the membership should be forwarded to the Board and / or committee Head.

I agree with you Deb, the wording should have had a little more direction in it.

The only reason I posted this is because I personally am interested in what the members have to say on these issues, and with so few letters coming to the office, I figured I had better go out and solicit opinons.

Deb, I have been pondering--how many of those 97 entries were the 1 and only?
2nd entries?
3rd entries?
or 4th entries?

Playing devil's advocate here, the current proposal (for all-I am NOT for it the way it is written, there has been some really good discussion in RR committee on some workable alternatives) would delete 8 national classes.

Technically that is a full day of racing.
A full day of track rental
A full day of ambulance rental
A full day's pay for "X" amount of Corner workers.
8 more Duffy's to purchase
8 more 2nd through 5th place trophies to purchase. (How many classes had that many participants? But, you had to buy the trophies, just in case!)

For the volunteers putting on the show it is another night's pay for a motel room
Three more meals on the road. (Yeah, like anyone putting on a race gets to eat!)
Another day away from the job and lost salary.

If they were 1st and only entries, then yes, don't lose them! I am also not in favor of losing the cross over Spec Sprint class. But how many were actually in some of the races that entered thoses classes a) coz they were offered and what the heck entered them b) entered at the track at the last minute, coz what the heck, they were there c)actually participated and supported those classes through out the year to race for a national championship of "their" class?

With track rentals, insurance, ambulance, corner workers and not to mention the genreal state of the economy, cutting some classes makes sense. Yes doubling up as SCK does (and other clubs) helps, but during the coruse of the eyar, many classes have NO ONE in them, so it isn't a problem.

Just some other thoughts to mull over--
Deb K

I dont know how many are 2nd and 3rd, etc. but will look at the sheets after the labor day holiday... I am SWAMPED with the Oct issue of KN because I have 3 GN events to review, etc.

Even if they are 2nd or 3rd or 4th etc, thats still ALOT of money to turn away. Not many people want ot come to an event to run just one class. With the GN events being run in the summer like they are, the ays are long. At next years GN event, I don't thing the track involved has a time problem like PIR did, so there is not a reason to drasically cut the classes by 2002. I know that the entries with SWRA will be very big in the shifter classes, and I would be willing to bet that their local option would be a shifter class. Since the time is not a problem for them, and since the proposal as written does not appear to be acceptable to anyone, it is my opinion that the national classes should be left alone, until a proposal that IS acceptable goes before the membership. I would suggest giving several options, and perhaps working on it as early as Jan for the Spring meeting, that way all the bugs will be worked out... hopefully!

I will look into the numbers though and get back to you.

Deb-it was a ponder, don't hurry to check numbers, but it would be great if the IKF office would send them to the committee members to look at and discuss. Making blind decissions causes lots of anger. What's good for one area has been proven not to be good for another and that is why rule/decissions and proposals are never met favorably. Generally ou will only hear from the "PO'ed".

Another question, in light of the proposal, whatever happened to probation of a class?

I know according to the rule book, a class can be put on probation, and if the numbers don't go up it gets replaced by the highest local option class. But I don't recall any classes being on probation currently. BUT THEN AGAIN I COULD BE WRONG!

Right now our division has a class limit cap of 22 classes.

For those of you that don't know (not you Deb, I know you know this part) in section 101.3.4 it tells you how classes bcome new classes.

But back to you Deb, I will try to look into this soon, I am really swamped right now. When I do I will fax you the info.
