| Frankie, I will agree that I don't want to make this a bash fest that's not what I had any intentions on doing. I guess I was just expecting something other than another WKA series. I just would like to know what happened in the past few months that aligned them with WKA? I guess I was under the assumption that it was going to be on a different platform. I do like what they are doing on less classes and more track time. Wish more series would take this approach. Just a few things seem a little sketchy about the press release. |

| I'm with Jason on this, what originally looked like an alternative to WKA has morphed in to WKA lite. |

I've won national or national level races with 4 different engine builders. As far as I know none of them cost 2000. I guess they all were cheating and had EDM'ed cyclinders? Probably not.
Look at the success of the Route 66 series. No one can argue the quality of program nor the year end awards. The same principles that made this series prosper will be the founcation for the USPKS. Simplicity and consistency. |

U guys kill me.. They haven't held a race yet and you are complaining! I think you have racer withdraw!! They have a 12 step plan for that you know! Don't worry spring is just around the corner you will be able to get your fix soon. Mark does an excellant job with the Route 66 Series and I am betting the US Pro Kart will be even better! Can't you give them a chance without compalining when you haven't even been to one of their races? _________________ We spend our money on Racing, Whiskey, and Women ~ The rest we waste! |

People that come to the USPKS races will see that it definitely is not a WKA race. It is a race series that is utilizing WKA engine tech rules (for the most part) and Michael Davis Insurance's program, which is only available to karting customers through WKA. WKA has a great series, and a place. USPKS will also have a great series, and a place, but they won't be the same place.
At the risk of speaking for Mark Coats, the idea here is, was, and always will be, to create another series that gives racers an experience different than what they were accustomed to. Tons of track time, stable rules, and kick-ass prizes. The hope here is that karting grows as a whole.
Have you ever heard of a new series generating this much excitement, anticipation, and chatter; and it hasn't even turned a wheel yet? This series is going to be exciting. Its going to be hardcore. Its going to be gritty. Our hands are going to be dirty. The drivers will come off the track sweating and tired but grinning ear to ear. Its going to be everything racing should be. This isn't going to be a "drop your kid off and go to the hotel" series. This is going to be a "buckle your seatbelt so you don't fall off your rocker" series.
When Mark Coats and Rick Fulks told me about this series and their ideas, I said "that's awesome", then they asked me to work for the series, and I said, "Work??...why would I want to do that? Sorry, but my kid wants to race!"

This is from the press release in November "The 2013 season will mark a new era in the sport of karting as the United States Professional Karting Series (USPKS) will launch under the guidance of Route 66 Sprint Series promoter Mark Coats. Aimed at providing a new and fresh karting organization to promote the sport for the racers, Coats along with a number of industry supporters have provided the groundwork for a new national series".
This doesn't sound like a release that's aimed at aligning with wka! |

Because they are using WKA tech guide does not mean they are aliging themselves with WKA. Would you rather they made up a new and different tech guide and make your existing equipment obsolete? DUH!!! _________________ We spend our money on Racing, Whiskey, and Women ~ The rest we waste! |

I guess you didn't read the press release:
"Pre-entry has now opened on the series website for the first race, with the final rules put into place for 2013, in addition to a new working relationship with the WKA." |

The karting community is too small to have complete separation between every big series. Man Cup generates around 600 entries or so, and with the "anti WKA" proposal it seems like some people want, you split that 600 into two 300 entry groups without adding to that number with new karters. Karting needs more people, and the proposed changes to the USPKS have a healthy avenue to accomplish that. The Route 66 series is undoubtedly one of the most enjoyable and well run series in the country, and have "aligned" themselves no more with WKA than the new USPKS series has. It will be fine... _________________ Greg Dingess

Tim,
Care to elaborate on the entry cost/prizes? Feels like all the classes are helping to pay for the "Pro" class prize money with the cost only $50 different.

Tim,
Well said! It amazes me that everyone complains about WKA about no track time, too many classes, limited to no awards, etc. yet you get guys that complain when someone steps up to make a change for the betterment of karting. In addition, I have heard a lot of the large kart shops are very much behind the USPKS series. That further confirms there should be an alternative. |

Hey Gary-
The Pro class prize money is coming primarily from the added entry fee cost for the Pro class, and then sponsorship money. I believe the plan calls for all the classes to have great year end prize packages, much like Route 66. Although it did take a number of years for R66 to get to the level it's at, so you know, don't expect USPKS to give away new Camaros to the class champions in it's first year. _________________ High Quality American Made kart stands.
