for the Rotax FR125 that only 50cc gear oil is required? Seems rather slim?
I took care of the radiator (distilled water) and running 93 octane with Motul oil mixed in...
Just need to know proper amount of gear oil? And manual also states to check periodically every two hours to see consumption... How will I know how much I need unless I drain it out and measure it? |

First of do you know if you have the metal gears, or plastic? What year is the motor?
If it is metal gears run 100cc. I have learned from a lot of the racers however that on race day they use Royal purple ATF rather than the suggested 10w-40 (i think it is). They also only use 75cc, however on practice they usually use 100cc's and whatever for oil.
Secondly, yes dump and measure! |

| The Rotax is a 2010. Not sure if it has metal or plastic gears, but I think it has plastic. Any easy way to confirm? |

New style will definitely have metal gears. |
Not sure I'd rely on that method when it's easy enough to check for yourself.
You can open up the cover on the back (seat side) of the engine to see if the gears are plastic or metal.
per rotax, refill with 50cc if plastic gears or 100cc if metal. |

| Also keep in mind that the oil just splash lubes the balancer, and water pump gears. It's not like there is a final drive gearbox. The gears in there are under a fairly light load, and only need just so much lubrication. |
