Hey guys, i have a 125 leopard tag kart and my mychron 4 isnt reading my water temp correctly. when its at idle it reads it just fine but if on track or under any throttle the temp bounces all over the place and doesnt read right. the sensor is in the cylinder head.
Also it wont read my lap times and i know the track beacon is working and i tried a new beacon/sensor thing on my kart and its plugged in and facing the right way and all. Let me know if anyone has any ideas to help me on either! Thanks! (I'm most concerned about the temp) |

| Had the same problem with mine and it was actually a bad cable. Try that 1st, if that doesn't work send it to Robbie at AIM and they'll turn it around to you in less than a week usually. |

Check your settings to make sure your minimum lap time is set appropriately so it isn't throwing out all your laps. _________________ T.J. Koyen

Regarding the temperature make sure you dont have the RPM and temperature wires run together. That may cause erratic temp. The lap timing issue could be a bad receiver or loose 4 pin on the circuit board. We would be happy to look at your gauge if you want to send it to us for inspection.

| From my professional experience with go kart racing and your diagnosis, it sounds like you have an engine that is about to blow up... Might want to check that out. |

This could easily be a wire/connector problem. The Leopard vibrates a lot at speed, and the track will also impose a lot of vibration. I have connectors with the old-style yellow prong plug, and the wires routinely break due to vibration. Wild swings in readings points to the wire or the sensor.
As Mike noted, the beacon pickup wire should be routed separate from the engine wires. Are you plugging the beacon pickup directly into the back of the M4 gauge, or into an expansion box? - I have found that it doesn't work when plugged into the expansion box, it must be plugged directly into the back of the M4 (middle connector, as I recall). |

This problem is easily avoided with a bit of planning, we have never broken a wire in 14 years of Mychron use.
Anchor each plug half separately to a support like a seat strut with TWO zip ties, one each half. Now zip tie the cables where they exit each plug to the seat strut as well, this stops any cable movement and breakage. _________________ understeer happens on road courses and usually is pronounced with a British accent. Push happens on ovals and usually is pronounced through a wad of chew. Other than that, I don't think there's a difference - Jim Derrig
