Lotus is the first to launch their car for the 2013 season, about 20 minutes ago.
Livery looks great with the added red. Car looks similar to last year's, but of course it'll all change by the time they get into testing.

I'm mainly interested in what McLaren has done with their car considering they approached last years rules differently than the rest. I'm also interested in how Ferrari has worked on the pull rod front suspension and improved upon it. That being said I'm not looking into these launches mainly because most of the cars are essentially last years cars suited up to look like this years stuff. Testing photos will tell a lot _________________ Adrian Baran

The best part is that due to the stagnant rules the designs are really splitting hairs at this point. The front of the pack should be attended by as many or more drivers than last year. Of course it is possible that a big break through will occur, but I find it unlikely.
McLaren better hope they figure out reliability, RedBull too. RedBull would have walked away with it had they not had a few critical break downs. Ferrari has the oposite, and sometimes easier problem. They need to find speed. _________________ http://www.Chrislivengood.net

| hmm, looks to me like Ferrari and Force India both have completely new chassis, However as far as the eye can tell, there aren't any major changes in the McLaren. |

A lot has changed on the Ferrari. Especially the rear packaging. They're suspecting that Ferrari has built a tiny gearbox for this year, because the rear near the exhaust exits is so tightly packed. I think if nothing else their car is really good looking.
I think the Force India is almost identical to last year's car actually, minus the new vanity cover.
But you're right, McLaren's doesn't look much different at all. I'm guessing they'll break out all the stops at Jerez. Last year their launch car had plastic covers over the diffuser at launch. _________________ T.J. Koyen

hmm, yeah I think you are right about the Force India. I thought the diffuser looked different as well as the front wing. I may just be crazy though...
You are right with the ferrari, that rear end looks tiny!
I am really liking the vanity panel, although no performance benefit, it definitely makes it look MUCH sexier. I am more so curious what the 2014 cars will look like. Tiny engines, larger KERS system, as well as reducing nose height to 185mm, going back to old school! ... kinda.
But seriously, the Mclaren, and now cars using the vanity panel look much better, that step was just ugly and I got sick of explaining "why it has that step" to everyone.... |

The McLaren, though with the same general livery, is much tighter around the headers producing that bulge under the Mobil 1 logo. Compare to the 2012 MP4-27
Not that I'm good enough to spot it with the eye, but 2013's MP4-28 has pull rod suspension up front, ala Ferrari.
It's interesting to see that, at least so far, Sauber is the only team to keep the stepped front nose:

The Lotus has the stepped nose too.
The new Sauber nose looks like Red Bull's last year. _________________ T.J. Koyen

The Sauber really impresses me those sidepods are tiny, and I'm interested in if they found something that other teams have over looked. Also I love the movement toward pull rods not only because they have benefits with aero, but my teams FSAE car is running them :p _________________ Adrian Baran

They'll impress as long as the C32 doesn't overheat |

I bet they route the excess heat generated by the tiny sidepods to the tires to heat them up faster since they had issues with that last year _________________ T.J. Koyen

| That's an interesting idea. Though, don't you think that if those gasses continually bathe the rear tires, it would eventually push them over optimal temperature? Then again, if passive blown diffusers make it passed scrutiny, then perhaps they could devise a passive method to reduce deflected gasses after some sort of catalyst. |
