Masters Yamaha Can

It has not been announced yet, but it looks like the Route 66 Sprint Series www.route66kartracing.com will have a Masters Yamaha Can class again this year, but the class needs to get better participation if the class is going to stay alive past the first several races. The first two races of the five race series this year are in Indiana (NCMP and MRP). The class regulars are hoping the Indiana Yamaha masters guys (and we know you are out there-George took us to school at NCMP last year!),will come out and play.
If you're not familiar with the Route 66 Series, it's well known as one of the best race series in the country, but don't take my word for it, ask around. The race directors, tech and admin staff are great. The racing is close (that's one of the reasons why we like our Yamahas) and clean (important for those of us with Monday obligations).
I know TAG Masters have other places and series they can run, and I think the Masters Yamaha Can racers need to make a stand, and the midwest and the Route 66 Series are the place.
I'll get off my soapbox naw and hope to see some interest from the community. I know the Route 66 people will see this, and I hope we can make them comfortable in their deciscion to keep the Masters Yamaha Can class alive.

Glad to see you posted this Dave. There is a large group of Yamaha Masters racers that run the KRA series at NCMP and I would think that there are several ready to go. Jason Ewers wrote a similar post several weeks ago.
Not that many years ago Masters classes were often the largest at several tracks, I wonder if lowering the Masters age to 30 has had a negative impact on entries.

Having run the Route 66 Yamaha Masters class the last two years, I can tell you it is a lot of fun. Having a few more racers to play with would be great.

The Route 66 series Yamaha Masters class requirements have changed the past two years in an effort to maximize participation. Unfortunately those changes have not yielded results. I see the 2013 KRA series class lists the Yamaha Can Masters at 360 lbs using YLC tires with an age of 30 years and up. This would seem to be a good formula to apply.

My only other suggestion would be to place the Yamaha Masters class into the Saturday schedule. It helps with getting an early start to the drive home on Sunday and back to work on Monday.

I'm in! Now that the RT 66 lowered the age limit to 30 I'll be running Yamaha Masters... Hopefully, some others will do the same and we'll get a strong class going...

I will def make as many as I can. I just also want to state that im not against running against the younger kids. Ill be 40 this year and have no problem racing against kids half my age. My issue is making weight for the lighter Yamaha class. I like to run as many classes as possible when at the track and usually that means Yamaha heavy and masters. I can't even come close to making the lite weight. Without a masters class it's really not worth my time to come out and run just one class. This may be different with the USPKS series and the amount of track time that we are going to be getting. We will just see but looking forward to this season. See you all soon!

Matthew and Jason, glad to see you guys chime in. Jason, last year at Route 66 races, we were able to run Masters on Saturdays, and Senior Heavy on Sundays. By the end of the day on Sunday, I'd had about all the track time I could handle!
If any of you guys out there have suggestions to help make the class more appealing, don't be shy to put your ideas out.

I would like to run Masters for the R66 NCMP event but I'm 31 and 185lb (6'2").

Honestly, I would rather race in Supercan Heavy than carry a 10lb handicap in Masters. That rule doesn't make sense to me. What is the logic behind making a 30-34 year old run 360lbs and 35+ run 350lbs?

As said, at NCMP club races we run 30+ @ 360lbs, which opens the door for the younger 30s guys vs the R66 rules.
