|
|
So my son will be doing his second season of sprint racing this coming spring. In the past he was also running SCCA autocrosses which had a spec tire (MG red). He says he's done w/ autocrossing so now there is no restriction on what tires to run.
Having looked at the various brands, they are all about the same price, all available in the correct size and many brands have multiple compounds. So the question I have is how to go about selecting brand and compound?
He will be running a Comer 80 in a cadet chassis, weight is 235#. There are two courses he will get to run. One is a parking lot course w/ moderately quick turns, very little straight areas. Asphalt is a 5 on a scale of 1-10 for age, flatness, general worn-out-ness. The other course is a section of car race track and access roads which provides chicanes separated by longer runs of nearly straight, certainly flat-footed. Asphalt on this is slicker, less abrasive as it is either newer or polished by the cars.
I'm sure there are as many answers as there are people willing to provide opinions but I am curious how one goes about choosing a tire or what experiences people have had.
Thanks

| The club he runs with doesn't care what tires for his group, they are pretty casual, so in essence, his class is open for tires. |

Finish off the reds
and look to see what the others are running. Odd that there isn't a spec tire. _________________ Arrow AX-8/ Rotax Sr. |
