::sigh:: Just spent $1000 on a helmet and I gotta get another.
| No, you don't. Just take the advice of some others who were actually helpful and get yourself in better shape. |
Exactly.
Neck exercise = free and good for you.
Buying new lid = definitely not free and you'll still probably have a sore neck.
There isn't a ton of difference between helmet weights. The Arai stuff is some of the lightest stuff you can get, but their car helmets are slightly heavier than the karting helmets. _________________ T.J. Koyen

| Thanks, yeah. I realized last night that it would be silly to buy a new helmet before trying to workout my neck. That's definitely first on the list. And theoretically it won't be as much of an issue on harder tires, anyways (assuming my old MG's still have more grip than a new set of R60A's). |

I wouldn't put a lot of faith in that idea. If you're just starting out, then there are probably fast guys at your track who will run faster on the Hoosiers than you were running on the MGs. Those are the guys you want to beat and to beat them, you have to be able to last for 15 or 20 lap races and an entire day of driving. You're only choice is exactly what I told in the very first response:
1) drive more, or
2) exercise. _________________ A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on. -- Winston Churchill. |

Dude you have one of the best if not the best helmet made, stick with it and practice. Took me 2 years at Jax to be able to run 20 laps there at full speed.

A Nexx XR1R is 2lbs 11 oz , while it is not snell rated it is ECE and DOT and it is a great helmet. BTW on that topic aside from strain on the neck as weight increases it also tends to increase the chance of spinal and other injuries under certain conditions
oh and yes your Aria is a great helmet for sure but it is heavy |

The helmet you have is fine. The problem is you are working muscles that are not conditioned for this type of activity lap after lap after lap.
You could be in marathon or Iron Man shape and still get a tired neck while running your kart.
If you want to get that neck in shape spend more time driving as well a working in a few light neck workouts away from the track but you must always remember to not over work the neck with too much resistance or weight. _________________ Mike Beeny
