fastest shifter kart engine?

does anyone have an opinion on the highest bhp/torque 125 kart engine? i no pavesi's are flying machines and heard good things about vortex. thanks

Depends on the track and the rules you want to conform to (if any).
Its not just about peak HP/torque. Its about tractability and linear throttle response, especially when the rubber gets laid down.

Where are you located?
If you are looking for a motor to run a KZ class with, unless you are running on long circuits, forget Pavesi. Harsh but true. Otherwise pick whatever you can get the best deal on, they are pretty close on time, difference is in how\where they deliver their power. TM, Maxter, Vortex, IAME, BMB & SGM are all stout.
Driving & Setup > Motor in KZ almost every time.

You will never really find any posted Horspower numbers for any 125cc shifter engine. The builders know but we get to guess.

At the time I bet the mod motos of the early 2000's where putting out big numbers. But now a TM KZ10B or Maxter - Vortex would be the big power brands mainly due to constant development by the manufactures and engine builders like Tec Sav.

You can get good Mod moto Swedetechs for less then $2k and good newer TM K9B or C's Vortex RVX, and Maxter MXO or MXV's for around $2000 sometimes less. Mod Moto's hit there peak of development in the Mid 2000's.

I think most development on Pavesi's stoped mid 2000's as well.

Now the work in the US goes towards stock moto development.

im located in wales, im only curious because my friend is looking to buy a kart and hes going to need somthing fast. ill only be looking to change karts when im ready to enter a race as mine is banned due to being open engine or maybe insert a reed valve. when the weather gets better ill get some video to post Very Happy

Across a lot of these engines you are talking tenths of seconds difference. Just get him whatever is best looked after for your budget. Andy Fairless would be a good guy to talk to. He does TM stuff.
Does your friend have any prior karting experience? Even club 100 or something. I'd reccomend you get him out in a Rotax or TKM first if he doesnt have any prior racing-machine type experience.

Sounds like yours might be an older Formula C rotary engine then. Big fun to drive. Wouldn't be worth the money to put a reed onto as technically it was never made for ICC or KZ so it still wouldn't be legal anyway. Just keep enjoying it!

never heard of rowah before. looking at it on youtube now, its looks similar to my local track, bit small for the my kart. i think he can handle a fast kart sraight away, just have to be carefull. i think TM`s a good shout for a the smaller tracks, probobly what i should of got.

Some of the old Honda RS race configured motors were probably up on the pipe pretty good. I'm with Jim, it probably all depends on the track your at. Big torque Honda or big RPM ICC, just depends on how open the layout is. A Honda built to the max is gonna lay down some sweet numbers from bottom to top.

I agree, two years ago the Honda could be a force to reckon with.

No longer the case anymore. As I said if the KZ is set up to homologation spec, there are no legal size Hondas that can get away from the tuned KZ.
But this won't be settled on EKN, only on the track.

I plan to have a couple of KZ's in the hunt this coming season on road courses in the Great Lakes region. Let's see what happens. If anyone has a good Honda bring it on over.

Reminds me of the You Tube I just saw of Shawn Dawley racing his K9B at Michigan International Speedway (long track). Video shows him pulling away from spec and mod on the long straight.

Open Honda R&D has all but stuck on the back chute a few years ago so I would hope a new ICC might do it.

But just for shiz and giggles in cik open try Brian Fisher and Bear on for size in your area, Tom and make sure you select some better than average squids to pilot those monsters cuz your gonna need em. After that test stuff one on a laydown and take on Brian Wilhelm at Daytona. Win all that and you can claim the monster 1 2 5 prize. Ahhh naaa come see us when your done there. Laughing
