Johnny West, Mark Croslyn. Bobby Butler, Darryl Bertram, Taylor Bertram, Jim Brannon, are committed to go down to run fun in the sun and chase Brian and his little 125. Come on guys, Let us hear from the fast class to see who is the fastest of the fast. This is the best place in the world to find out who is really (The Man). Come on West Coast Guys. I know we can turn out 30 or more guys for the fast class.

Doug, not a lot of 250's. Unlimited I had 7-10 entries, Unlimited II had 12-15 entries. The fastest 250 was in the 2:01's I think. The winning time was 1:59.79 in Unlimited I, and 2:00.1 in Unlimited II. I don't understand why more 250's don't show up at Daytone. Johnny West and Jim Brannon hooked up in the draft and turned 1:58's (maybe even 1:57's) a few years back. Dokken had a really quick 250 a couiple of years ago, and Croslyn has been fast there. A sharp 250 will turn 1:59's with no drafting help, so we could have a really good race.
My 125 laydown makes really good power for a 125, but it's really aero that gets you going fast at Daytona. Jim Brannon and I had a killer race a couple of years ago. He could tear me up in the infield, but I could always pass him back on top end. _________________ Brian |

thanks for the update Brian,
I see the enduro guys are not all that happy with the race coverage either.
I hope you justify the jump to a 250.
from here the frontal area differences between a lay down 125 / unlimited and the 250 is the issue. The 250 need their own class, if a slippery lay down (no disrespect I love them) can our run a 250 at a place like Daytona its too much for the ego to take and is confusing to the spectator - potential new karter!
I'd think that taking the wings off and working on the profile would increase the speeds but then that would further alienate / segment the class.
just my 2 cents but I really think we need to work on identity and not bunching us all together. Growing both classes is the key. |

Doug, IMO, the Unlimited class has always been the "mixing pot" for different ideas. 125, 250, laydown, situp, dual 100's, dual 125's, etc., all make it fun.
It's a strong formula. Harper with his dual 125's has turned 1:59's, some 250 superkarts have turned 1:59's, and laydown 125's have turned 1:59's. Pretty even and competitive class. Short tracks like Barber, the 250's turn 8-10 seconds faster laptimes, but hey, going in I know that when I sign up for Unlimited.
With all respect, I don't think creating an "identity" for one class will help. 250's need karting, and karting needs 250's. A few years ago, a driver (NOT a 250 guy) posted that "it was his goal to get his class the recognition it deserved". Classes will get the recognition when it's earned. I remember very well the USSK race on Sunday at the WKA Road Atlanta event in 2006 or 2007. Literally everybody went to the fence and stayed there for the entire race. There was a "buzz" in the entire pits before that race. That is exactly where the US Superkart scene needs to get back to. If it heads that way, I'm in. If it heads toward the support type race thing for car or motorcycle events, no way. _________________ Brian |

Friday....warm and sunny in the 70's. Great day for practice.
Saturday cloudy and rain early, much cooler in 40's early then high 60's afternoon. All races were shortened and done by 5 or so.
Sunday a little cooler and cloudy. Full day of racing done by 4pm.
Only 3 superkarts made the race. Jim Brannon, Mark Croslyn and myself.
Brannons cr couldn't keep the pace and Mark had transmission issues with his PVP/PVP. Therefore just making laps worked for easy wins sat and Sunday. Second overall sat and I believe 3rd overall Sunday. My Anderson/PVP proved reliable finishing both days although ran out of fuel last lap. Good racing for 2nd thru 4th both days. A lot of passing, drafting. Wish more of you could have made it down for the race! _________________ Bobby Butler......."GO BOY GO" RACING, HOUMA, LOUISIANA

Can't speak for anyone else, but the dates will prevent me from making it to race. Would love to do it, but my Christmas week is spent with the family.
Happy New Year

This is a copy of Mylaps when Randy Johnson rented my spare 250. He and I ran nose to tail. It was a good run.
I was 156.3 Randy was 156.6

The older I get, the faster I was!
How about a call out for all of the fast guys and the sharp 250's, as Brien calls them. Here's a years notice to get your act together and meet at Daytona for the big show. We'll all register and run the unlimited class and no more excuses or b.s...any takers? _________________ Bobby Butler......."GO BOY GO" RACING, HOUMA, LOUISIANA
