This whole thread is in bad taste. However frustrating he may have been to some of you, it doesn't give anyone an excuse to publicly ridicule him. All it does is intimidate and discourage people who may want to participate in our sport but have questions.
We should be welcoming to new people, and look at this situation and just be happy there is now more information posted for others to see and use to their benefit. _________________ 2Wild Karting

I guess I probably have been Ceasor at times with my questions at times....only difference is that I am too stubborn to quit!
I think we need to look past this & do everything we can to help new people be successful or enjoy this sport or else we will not have a sport in the future. If you run into a ceasor type person help them out & explain things well enough that they understand but as the old saying goes "you can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink".

7 years ago when I first thought about getting into karting, I didn't know about ekn. I asked around... found extended family that raced karts... talked to them. They sent me to the local kart shop. I wanted to get into a 125 shifter right from the getgo. "Oh no, you can't do that!" is what I was told, same as Cesar. I ended up getting a TaG kart, even though I really wanted a shifter. Was STILL in over my head. Got hurt bad right off when I flipped it in my 2nd race. Found out TaG is NOT a class for a newbie in this sport. My 125 Honda is easier to work on than a TaG. Anyhow... I spent a couple years with that TaG on sprint tracks, trying to learn to drive. Then I bought a Stock Honda. Yeah, I'm glad I started off in a clutch kart first... now. Couldn't tell me back then, but all you boys with all those years experience just MIGHT know a thing or two.
Yeah, the Honda is easier to work on, but the TaG was a lot easier to concetrate on my driving habits. Don't know if I would have stuck with it had I started in the shifter. I still feel that 125 shifters are too much for most sprint tracks, and are better suited for road racing.
A few months in, I found out about this site. Spent months going through all the info contained on this site. And there's LOTS of it!
Now I see others in my shoes a few years back. And they have NO IDEA of what they're in for... Like stated earlier, the thoughts of transportation, storage, tools, supplies, fuel, tires... It's mind boggling! The words 'budget' and 'racing' cannont be used together in any real sense. If you have a tight budget, this is not the 'hobby' or sport to be involved in. But there are those that see karting as fun time on city streets, then find out that you can't do that, and to go run on a track and be safe, you need to invest a sizeable chunk of change to buy safety gear.
I get asked a lot about karting stuff from customers that know that I race. Some I steer away from it, because I know that they can't afford it and won't have a good time. They're better off at the rental tracks. But there's others that I try to steer right in the beginning. Those could be future runners. _________________ Play now, work later! |

Actually, he's growing up and doing fine. Apparently his team got a podium finish at the 25hrs of THill a couple weeks back.
I really gotta agree with Ryon as well. I may ask a lot of silly questions, and don't always follow advice that doesn't seem to fit what my senses tell me is going on. But I can't remember having been flamed publicly since the days of the Lounge.
As fast as we're losing shops, tracks and OEMs...it seems kinda pathetic to give someone a hard time just because they don't have enough experience to see the wisdom in free advice.
<shrug>
Now, if only I could figure out how to get some free time back...I could get a few laps in occasionally too. |

Ultimately those who fall in love with the sport stay. Those who don't, leave.
Karting is not as simple to participate in as softball or soccer, so that bit of extra commitment is required. Those who do not love this sport enough will not find the $ or wil find some other excuse to not participate.
You all are making a huge deal out of nothing. One incredibly stubborn annoying individual left the sport. This is great because his personality type would be the one who took you out of a race as you were coming up to lap him because "you're not on the proper racing line" etc.
Makes for a fun "off season" discussion though doesn't it! _________________ CKR/KZ

We will end this thread on Ryon's statement. No need to further hash it out any more. The forum is to discuss and to give advice to those in the sport or those looking to learn about it. No matter the direction the person goes, EKN has always supported any questions people may have and know the EKN Community will offer up their opinions and ideas in the best possible way. That's what makes our site the best in the sport. _________________ David Cole
