I've heard from reliable sources that a Tec-Sav lease/rental in the KZ2 (SuperPro) class at the SuperNats runs ~ $8K(!!!) for two engines for the event. Please be aware that the KZ2 SuperNats rules allow 2 engines for each driver for the event (as well as two chassis). I think this is in line with European CIK races. Last year Tec-Sav had HUGE problems at the SuperNats due to his engines getting stuck in customs but there were no similar problems this year that I'm aware of. Probably, or at least partially, due to last year's problems Tec-Sav had a lot fewer engines at the this years SuperNats.
All this being said, SwedeTech built last years G1 winner Jimmy McNeil's engine and it walked away from the Tec-Sav's!!! _________________ Ken Schilling

Energy ran Tec-Sav TM.
Praga ran Tec-Sav Parilla.
Tony Kart ran Factory Vortex.
Verstappen/Pex ran TM's prepared by Jos.
Tec Sav will not put any of his engines on a Tony Kart. Don't quite know the story behind that though. _________________ 2Wild Karting

Never, say never...
SKUSA didn't kill the class, lack of participation did. SKUSA kept the class alive until lack of participation forced SKUSA's hand. However, SKUSA maintains the ICC/Mod Moto class in their rulebook and allows/encourages it as a local option. Drivers migrated from ICC/Mod Moto (mostly ICC) to Spec Honda for a number of reasons that will be left for another discussion.
Right now the Spec Honda is the most popular shifter engine of choice due to the success of SKUSA, their rule set, and the choice of the drivers.
That being said, even in SoCal where SKUSA is based, there is a loyal following of drivers who race ICC/Mod Moto with a couple of racing org's. LAKC has probably the largest following in their Open Shifter class.
Spec Honda is not everyone's "cup of tea".
Maybe someday ICC/Mod Moto will make a comeback... _________________ Ken Schilling

Verstappen KZ motor was clearly the fastest motor on the track and not a Tec Sav
Point is you have to spend alot if its Tec Sav, Swedetech or who ever you choose to go with
Ken I know Tev sav was not the price you mentioned but maybe that changed this yr. |

The overemphasis folks place on motor over here in the US astounds me. What's worse is that these folk should know better.
That's all I have to say for now. _________________ Live in the midwest and have a TaG, Shifter, KPV, KT100, Animal\LO206, enduro or superkart?

Even though his result doesn't show it, Ron White's Maxter by JWR was equal to and sometimes faster than Verstappens taking shoot times on the main straight. At that level it's the complete package that is fast, not just the engine..... The fast guys are on the gas earlier, brake later, and have their chassis hooked up doing what they need it to do. _________________ Riley Will

Good points Riley. I guess I've never heard anyone in the KZ class saying they where out powered.
The inflated costs of what some of these engine builders charge is ridiculous. That is the killer of the class not the performance. _________________ http://bridgemanbroskarting.blogspot.com/

| While the engine debate is pretty much over with SKUSA, my question is why has the age limit for G1/S4 continued to be lowered to now 30? I'm 54 now so it doesn't affect me, but the G1 class was affectionately called the (Geezers) class which encouraged a lot of more "experienced" guys to keep running whether it was on an ICC or a Moto. Now 30yrs old guys can jump around and try to pick off a class they can win if they can't hit the podium in S1, by going to S2 or S4. I think 35 would be a fair age to encourage more "Geezers" to keep running and entering big events such as SNats. Having said that I gotta give props to Bonnier Moulton who kicked ass at SNats in S4. Not sure how old he is but I'm sure he'd kick ass at 65! JMO |

| 35 is reasonable. 40 is ideal. |
