If you only had two chains for Stock Moto sprint racing, which 2 sizes covers the broadest ranges of ratios? _________________ Matt Dixon

It depends where you put your motor on your kart. Some people mount the motor way back and use an really short chain. Mine usually ends up around 4 to 6 links removed from a 60 link chain. The chassis will often determine best placement because of cross-bars or seat bars that get in the way, and that will determine your initial chain length.
A more general answer: 2 chains with one link difference will cover most of the ratios you'll run and keep the motor in a similar position. In only rare occasions you'll run something like an 18/28 or a 14/22 and need a chain with +- more links (compared to your 2 normal chains). Is that the answer you're looking for?
I'm talking sprint gearing. Road racing may require another set of chains, though I think a 19/22 is the same as a 16/25 (chain length), so maybe not. _________________ Randy
