Maybe you guys should look for a shifter with auto-transmission.

While I personally believe that the intent of a Stock Honda class is that it should never have an "ignition interrupt" fitted, I've had many Formula E's in my time and ALL of them were/are fitted with one. Mechanical switches are prone to breaking from vibration, all of my Formula E karts are fitted with proximity switches as used in industrial automation, which means no mechanical contact(s). Yes Jimmy, those gear rod switches are only good to throw in the park with a stupid dog that won't fetch.

Anyway, I found it interesting that no one has mentioned that "Flat Shift Ignition Interrupt" means that the carb slide stays open 100% when on power and this means that the air flow through the carb at high revs into the cases does not get disturbed during that gear change.

The ignition interrupt nominally should be set for a duration of 30-40ms if the trigger switch is correctly set from lever actuation, but with wide open throttle during ignition interrupt means the pipe temperature will drop which will upset the optimum 2 stroke tune when on power.

Overall for performance gain and helping to look after the gearbox when shifting upwards, ignition interrupt is the way to go, as for any cable type paddles or compressed air shift on any kart, throw that time wasting crap to the shithouse.

So I hope I've helped answer your question there Ace.

You guys really shouldn't be haters!

Why not encourage rather than discourage with your rude remarks?

Im 60 and been in racing a long time, all different types and we always TRIED different things whether they worked or not. We didnt say the things you all have said to anyone. It appears only a handful have at least tried an aftermarket shifter and gave honest opinions! The rest of you only chime in to hear or in this case see yourself talk! Your a believer only from
What you see and read, not from personal experience. To me, your not a leader, but a follower!
Ive said all im gonna say but I will try it and see! I may go back to the conventional stick and may not! Its my decision, my money, my kart and it didnt cost ANY of you a dime!
Thanks

The problem is you don't get it. We tried to explain, we've tried to help you with your questions, but you still don't get it. Do a search for the love of god, and read through the shifter debate, it didn't end in your favor... From what I've read, you're trying to attract drivers to your local track, by the looks of the replies here, your chasing more away Shocked

This isn't the sport it was 30 years ago, people don't fiddle in their garage and come up with brand new ideas. Chassis are mostly all homologated, engines are mostly spec, put it together and run it, that's what people want, it's been shown.

If you want to be innovative, like I said before, buy a Superkart....

You know you could have just started with that and saved a lot people that are actually interested in kart racing a lot of time.

Ace What is it exatly tha you don't understand about what everyone else here has already explained, expressed, submitted, or otherwise told you (A few times over) about what you originally asked to begin with? Just thought I'd get that clear. I've got a Machatron. I love it. It works PERFECT. I mean perfect, but it's expensive and I know that not everyone has the extra money to dole out on an e-shifter. This is karting, not F3, atlantic, light, or mini F1. It's karting. It should be kept that way to some degree or else it gets to be a money war. I want to get beaten by someone with some talent. Not by someone because he has a fat wallet.

As a person who put up decent results on not entirely an expensive budget, I dont really see why I need a paddle shifter. That 1500 bucks that you say is just not really all that much when you spend 12k on a go kart, actually goes a long way. That's a weekend of the pro tour, or a case of tires and track time. Id rather spend the 1500 bucks to fix something that doesn't work perfect every time (my driving) instead of fixing something I've never had a problem with. The ONLY argument against the lever is that occasionally your hand may miss the lever, or may not fully engage the gear, at which point the problem is user interface. I've had some seriously sketchy corners and never really said "oh that was a problem because I had to shift". There's even been more then a few occasions where I've backed it in Supermoto style. With a kart sideways, rear brakes locked up a bit, and still having to downshift while correcting the slide and pointing the car through the corner, it hasn't proved an issue. Its busy, but that's the point. Otherwise Id be driving a tag, or playing Playstation. Spend your money how you want to, but I guarantee my lever will set a faster lap. Regardless of the sanctioning body.

I have the mechatron system on my kart. I've always been a trail-braker, so for me, one-handed corner entry is a bit of work with the front end loaded up. Being able to keep both hands on the wheel makes this more manageable. Yes, I could live without it if I had to. But funnily enough, many of the guys I used to race ran paddle shifts as well (albeit a cable setup). If they can, why shouldn't I?
