I already know what Ace's question will be after he gets his system without an interrupt.
What happened to these gears?

You know, i sure dont know why everyone on here is always negative about someone trying something! You all did the same thing on the GFS thread! It allmost makes a guy want to NOT say a word about anything and become a lurker of these boards!
Thanks for all the encouragement! Its no wonder you guys think the hobby will die! Your killing it with the kind remarks!
Y'all have fun! |

I tried the Mechatron. I had to swap some wires etc. to make the no lift shi(f)t work properly but the problem is that when you enter a corner you miss a lot of shifts because it is extremely sensitive and oftentimes you shift down a gear more than you would want to.
I sold mine again but my friend still has his so I drive it from time to time.
Also - you cannot find neutral. So if you are on the grid in a big field you have to stand there with the clutch pulled for ages. You have exactly the same problem if you want to run, jump in and start your kart yourself. You have to mess around with your fingers on the J-arm to find neutral.
It is fun to drive and it sounds awesome but it is a gimmick. It may work much better on an ICC I can not testify to that but it is not worth the money on a Honda.
I think the reason why it is not legal is pretty simple. IF it was legal, the companies behind these systems would throw out a few systems to the fastest drivers in the class. They would win ANYWAY but now everybody think:
"ah since the fastest guys are running this, I HAVE to be running or I am disadvantaged"
It is a pretty expensive system and at least on a Honda it is not just a bolt on so this would be the beginning to the end of the class.
Although you see people win races with $15 fuel pumps, people still believe they have to buy pump around, gravity systems and what not to win races. The fast guys would still win races with the $15 pump, but since they are running the expensive stuff most others think they have to do the same... _________________ 2012 Formula Car Challenge Vice Champion (Pro Formula Mazda)

One of the best comments I have seen in recent times at EKN, very much a true statement.

| We may be able to make to one of the FWT rounds...working on it...if so, hopefully I get to meet you there (and your son too). You guys should try to make one round at LAKC here - be certain you would have a great fun time - if interested, let me know and I can try to set you up with a local team/shop and/or just a kart. I will warn you that MFG is the most respectable and feared driver of all drivers in our area... |

The thing is, this has all been hashed out several times in here, if you did a search, it would answer about 98% of your questions....

What exactly is an air shifter? Is it pneumatic? if so where does the compressed air come from? Honestly if you looking to make time a simple ignition interupt will probably do more than elaborate system to do what's already quick simple and direct. Eliminate having to take your foot off the gas and it gets simpler and quicker.
The Rotax DD2 is about as fast and easy as it gets for shifting. I'm surprised it's so hard to get participation racing them they realy are the perfect middle ground between TAG and shifter. On a short track they will compete with a shifter with around a 12 HP dis advantage.
