ok...here ya go
Number 1 I am not in a rock band, and as such don't see how in the world a rock and roll industry relates to WKA karting. I don't think there is any way in the world that the karts are near as loud as Nascar, Indy Cars, Top Fuel dragsters, or the F1 cars that are running in Texas this weekend.

I again am all for the pipe on the Seniors..I don't have a problem with it at all,, lets make them faster and hopefully it will grow that class back to its former glory.

I don't feel that one test at a full throttle horsepower track is "testing" there was admittedly one kart, one driver at a track that he was probably able to full throttle around without lifting. Nothing at all against the driver, tuner, the track or the WKA for testing, but there needed to be testing completed at different tracks to see the real results of restricting this engine and carb combination. I am not even totally against restricting the juniors, but in my testing they have been overly restricted. when a junior Yamaha will not be able to pass a sportsman komet down the straight, something is wrong. That ladder just had the damn rungs kicked out of it.

I also feel that is you are planning on adding a pipe to the junior, give us the whole package at once. If noise is the concern, I can understand that for sure, but give me the pipe and the restrictor so that the people can figure out all the changes at once.

I am really not sure why there needs to be no change to the sportsman, if this is truly a noise issue...the sportsman in fact use the SAME RLV SSX can that the juniors and the seniors have traditionally used...not the 3 hole can as reported in the letter from the president. So if the same can is to be used for the sportsman, on the same Yamaha engine, isn't the noise close to the same?

So to all the people that think I am a jerk for posting my feelings on this matter, I have to ask you if you have been to the track and actually tested this yourself? Have you actually ran your engine with a restrictor to see what happens?

I think that this may bring a little splash of reality for you...the restrictor is the same size as the one that is on the sportsman Yamaha...remember that one? With the tiny little carb?

I am really not bashing the WKA or the thoughts behind this to try to improve the ladder, but I do think a little more thought should be put into it, or at the very least a little more testing. I am willing to share any and all of my results with anyone, just ask. I will tell you the good and the bad.

I can't say for sure, cause I havn't obviously tested this with a large number of karts...but I personally think that the karts will be nose to tail, and we will all be speculating on what lap the big one happens.

The good news is that if you have been working in the music industry and considering taking the plunge into karting, your ears will now be as safe in karting as they were in the music industry!! So nothing should be holding you back now!!

Evil or Very Mad

Respectfully, I think that this is something silly to be mad about. Why is cutting volume a bad thing? As someone who has dealt with hearing issues for the last bunch of years, I can tell you that it is an actual concern for day to day life for the kids and while they're still young and developing. I know it isn't a pressing issue, but it is an issue where any little bit can help.

I'm definitely not mad... Evil or Very Mad can be used for "mad" or "evil"... I was attempting to be "evil"... sorry for the confusion. Twisted Evil

Andy it was supposed to be for slowing the jr's down and speeding up the seniors, now all of a sudden it is about noise. If it was about noise, wouldn't they change the noisy SSX can on the Jrs, and the Sportsman classes. It really wasn't about noise at all IMHO.

Ask for the Decibel data from the test.

Also I think our officials in control should know that Sportsman do not run a 3 hole can, atleast not for about 10 years or so Embarassed

Tim, I know you aren't mad about it. I phrased that entire post fairly poorly. The point that I was trying to get across was that it shouldn't be the majority, or even a glimmer, of the discussion. It should be about reworking the classes.

I know that it was supposed to be for speed adjustment. I think the noise is something that was tacked on there at the end -- I'll leave the political semantics out of it aside from that.

Again, sorry for my poor phrasing on the first post.

Wow...........

WKA Trustees vote to suspend use of 0.750 filter cup

CONCORD, N.C. – The World Karting Association Board of Trustees voted last night, November 20, to suspend the implementation of the 0.750 filter cup in the Yamaha and Komet Junior classes at the December 27-30 Margay Sprint Championships at Daytona International Speedway.

The use of the 0.750 filter cup in the Mazda / Bridgestone Manufacturers Cup Series is now on hold pending additional testing.

The 2013 season opener at Daytona will follow 2012 engine rules in the Yamaha and Komet Junior classes.

WKA looks forward to welcoming all 2-cycle sprint teams back to The World Center of Racing this December for the prestigious Margay Sprint Championships.

Click here to view and print the Daytona Man Cup entry form.

Mail completed pre-entries to WKA at 6051 Victory Lane; Concord, NC 28027; fax to 704-455-1609 or scan to keith@worldkarting.com.

I have to say my first reaction to a KT100 running a can was complete and total astonishment at how much noise it made and how bloody slow it was. Madness! One of the slowest and loudest things I have seen. Gives 100cc karts a bad name Smile

How did the can come to be?

45 to 60 plus mph is slow ? Seriously ? Pipe has come a gone at the national level and for a lot of clubs, it seems that the four can has been chosen by the Karters which is why it has lasted so long..

slow huh ?

OK so "slow" is a subjective term. A clone can get up to 60 and makes a lot less noise.
People clearly enjoy racing can and that's fine, to each his/her own. I'm just saying I don't understand why a noisy can was chosen as a means of restriction over something a little more elegant involving a silencer. Cost is always a factor but nonetheless its still amazes me how much noise a can setup makes for how (comparatively) slowly it moves. It's inversely proportional!
