i got a from the guys at shark shifter.
i was told that it would need to be bend to match my kart. The rod looks very sturdy. How are the bent ?, do kart shops have a special rig ?
can someone please post a picture of their shifter rod installed ?
i feel confident installing my seat, but i wonder the order of operation. something tells me i should install the seat first then the rod ?

| Yes, install the seat in its proper position first. The rod probably has right and left threads and you may have to shorten it. The rod goes straight past the seat and then takes a gentle bend up to the j arm. So put the engine in place with the j arm attached. Use a coat hanger or piece of welding rod to mock up the bend and any angle, if needed, to get past the seat. Attach the left rod end to the j arm side at the half way point of the threads. Attach the right handed rod end to the bottom of the shift lever and then mark your rod for length after you do the j arm side bend. You will need a right hand 8mm tap to make a new threads iin the rod if you have to shorten it. For bending you can apply some moderate heat and bend in a vise with two pieces of wood in the jaws as not to damage the rod. I've also bent them over unmounted wheels in the past. |

if you have to shorten it, be sure to shorten the side with the RH tapped threads....
Unless you would like to special order a tap (most local hardware stores do not have a LH tap)
(potential "Oh Hell" moment....)

(then again it does not matter much if you have left and right threads once you put a big dog leg in the part.)

| What's the point of having two different threads on shift link? it's not like you would be adjusting it like the tierod, after it is bent the only way to adjust would be to take the ends of the shifter arm or j-arm. I would go to both RH threads if I was shortening and tapping the threads, unless of course you have some extra LH end lying around you don't know what to do with:) |

That would depend on what rod ends he was sent. The standard ICC shift rod that comes with the kart, or was most likely shipped to him, has a right and left hand thread, so we would have to assume that what rod ends he received also.
Regardless, this is a pretty pointless thread, pun intended....
Michael, if your rod is straight, how do get your suit on?

That is a very good point, the same question I ask myself everytime I do shorten the RH side anyways. 
I guess it depends if you have more LH or RH rod ends in the spares kit, then again you may need a LH tap if you have an abundance of LH rod ends.

I could see the advantage of having both RH/LH threads, provided the rod is straight. That way, if you need to move the engine slightly fore or aft, you can the adjust the shift rod as well without too much hassle.
But you're right, once you bend the rod that feature does become pretty useless.

I make my own shift rods for my spec moto from 4130 and use right hand threads on both side 
For my ICC I will have to check since I haven't put it on the kart yet
