Switching from a 11-tooth driver gear to the 12-tooth on a new style clutch for the first time using parts that came with the engine when I bought it used. When I tighten the hex nut to keep the clutch drum on, the drum won't turn freely anymore. I am using the thrust washer, the o-ring and the needle bearing cage. If I install all that without the o-ring, it spins fine.

Doing a little research - it seems that the needle bearing that I have might be longer than the 2010 kit that comes with the o-ring. Is the newer one (needle bearing) shorter?

Thanks.

Try it without the oring. You might have a pre-O'ring needle bearing which would explain the issue.

It works without the o-ring which is what I wanted to confirm was that the Pre and post o-ring kit had different bearings. Thanks.

Yes, the needle bearing is different pre vs post o-ring. If you're using the pre o-ring needle bearing, I'm sure that's the problem. The new needle bearing leaves enough room in the driver gear for the o-ring to fit without interfering much with the bearing.
