I was recently at a specialty garage when I spotted this kart propped against the wall. I spoke to the owner about it. All he knew that it was an older margay. It is for sale. My question is what is it worth in this condition and is it worth restoring. First thing I would do is ditch the homemade shifter rig and remove the engine. [/img]

Pretty cobbled up but looks restorable, personally I wouldn't give over 200 bucks for it. I'd pay that for it.

Its a 4 wheel brake kart with series 24 wheels that have the disc adapters on them and 2 H/A masters . If the frame is not trash , its worth some money . Maybe 4 to 5 hundred .

Sometimes period mods can be cool.

Think of the fun you'd have showing up at vintage events with it totally restored and telling folks it was the first shifter kart ever built Laughing

Pick it up if you can....

Back in the early 80's threre were alot of trial and error shifty karts built. Karters were trying to develop a production 125 shifty class without laying out the big bucks a Rotax required. Some of them ran good some not so good. It was taking off but the sanctioning bodies would not make a seperate class called 125 production. In our area We had at least 15 Karts that were mainly older chassis and anything from Susuki to maico motorcycle motors. So that is what You have and I wouldn't pay over $250.00 for it. I hope this info helps. Happy Karting.

They were running shifter karts in the UK almost from the start of karting over there in the late '50s

This is a Margay Cheeta one of my first karts with an 101Mac open .
I still have it and would not part with it.
that would be easily clean up with a little work.

Nice Cheetah dual kart. Very nice karts. I to still have mine. I've run everything from single 91s to C-Open with K-99s on it.

I bought this kart. Mostly wanted it for the front brake stuff. I talked PuttnikDude from Atlanta into picking it up and hauling it from Atlanta to the Jacksonville VKA race, and I picked it up there. So far it's just sitting against the wall in my garage just like it was before. The motor install looks OK. They didn't mess up the frame too bad. It can be restored with a lot of cutting and grinding. But it's missing both swing mounts, the front disks are pitted probably too bad to save. So for now it's a donor for my New Breed. It's low on my restoration list, but maybe sometime.... Brad
