Hey fellas!
Justin here, Long story short I grew up racing karts and motos, only to give up karting for thetwo wheel alternative. Well, now i'm back! I got myself an intrepid cruiser and fr125 Rotax Max. 100% race legal.
Do you all have any pointers, tips, and tricks? I am more concerned with jetting, engine temps, etc etc.... For instance, why are guys running tape on their radiator here in Arizona and 95+ degree days. i also see them ripping them off while driving, which I assume is because they see water temps on their Mychron.
Of course I am relearning, but I am not new to racing, or mechanical engine work (although I cant do much on a Rotax anyway without breaking the seal.)
Anyways, just a general tips, pointers, and suggestions thread! Thanks all!

well, Matt I looked through the past 10 pages or so, And Mostly looked for the ones you posted, as well as any other usefuls that popped up!
hence why I ended up with so many of your threads....
But thanks! now i have much more information, and hopefully collecting it all into one source will help someone else! |

I did sell everything. All I have is an 08 Biesse kart for sale. In November I should have 2012 CRG's up for sale after supernats though for next season. And the trip up here would be worth it with all the sponsoring we are getting from bondurant. Plus you get to race against Alan Rudolph and Phil De Lao.
Alright setting anyways. Im going to tell you right now. In AZ your not going to follow the books on jetting unless you wanna go slow. Maintenance wise just cleaning everything is fine, Im runnning an out of the box rotax in National races and have 40 hours on it still running strong at PKRA havent even repacked the pipe  Not suggesting it but still saying they are reliable. |

| Well then it sounds like I need to connect with some AZ rotax drivers as it sounds like jetting and kart setup won't be by the books here. |

Also I have seen recently I have seen some seemingly indesicive people. Back when I used to race you set your seat on install, then left it. I have seen a few people with holes drilled all over their seat for different positions?
It was my understanding that 90% of the time the manufacturers suggested setup works best? |

You understood wrong... LOL! Put it this way. For every different driver height/weight combination, the center of gravity within the kart moves a bit. For each of those scenarios, moving the seat may affect that COG. I think all the fast guys have seats that look like Swiss Cheese by the end of a test week at a big event.
Do you need to do the same? Probably not. But at the highest levels, small changes in seat position will definitely change how the kart handles.

| What Nick said. I usually have two or three sets drilled in my seats. One to be as low and far back and another to be high and forward and one in the middle. And alot of time manufactures make mistakes on tutorials of how to tune a kart so trust people who do oit and not what you read on articles. |
