(not a KAC member)
Just speculating, but with all the requests for kids to move up to JA earlier in the season that they will turn 12 (I know of a few people who asked) maybe this new overlap is the answer the SEB wants to give. Keep the child in JB until they are 12, then move up as needed.
Again, not an SEB or KAC member. But I'm okay with the ruling.

What I read said 12yr old could run FjB or FjA. |

That's how I read it also. Which is great for us because Michael is a little 60 pound 12 yr old.
I just fired up our WF. located the slide restrictor and motor mount to fit the cadet. Heck we still have some 1/2 life MG reds. _________________ Arrow AX-8/ Rotax Sr. |

Joe I believe you read correctly... I found out about the SEB decision on FB like everyone else. _________________ Jason Vehige

This does clear up the in between for the season the driver turns 12, simply making a crossover leaves it more open for parent/driver ability.
That...and the fact that the JB kart is WAY faster than it used to be gives more reason to hang in that class.

Exactly, a restricted JB WF was for us faster because he could get the kart to change directions easier and keep his foot in it.
I do support the change. Just a little shocked at the method I found the info. Facebook and SOLOMATTERS. not Fastrack with official marked on it. Plus August Fastrack said the age range stands as is no change required.
Makes one wonder how this came about from the SEB without KAC aware of it. Maybe being short fused right before NATS this method of info disemination was the best that could be done at this time.
School starts Monday for us so looking to work with the teachers to yank him out for a week to make 6 runs in a go kart. _________________ Arrow AX-8/ Rotax Sr. |

So no one on the KAC had any input on this move to extend the age of JB, the SEB just decided this was something to push through on their own? Crazy how this move gets done and the changes that Tom was talking about a whole month ago haven't been unveiled in Fastrack. _________________ #35 AS, SCCA WDCR |

I agree with the new rule. We had planned to run JB again, but were told 12 yr olds needed to run JA at national events. Just wish it was clarified sooner than a month before Nats, not enough time to make the switch over.

Brian R. yes I agree it was a rule change to something that was assumed was different and more in line with WKA and IKF. and probably most local sprint track series. 12 yrs old is a transfer year. But I suspect you know that.
BTW tell the youngins nice driving this weekend it's nice to see these kids doing so well against cars.
What engine packages are each of them running? _________________ Arrow AX-8/ Rotax Sr. |

Joe, Thanks I’ll let them know.
They’re both running the WF engines. |

Last year I sent a letter asking for a clarification because "regions are free to adjust the transition age" means a 8yr old could run JA and a 18yr old could run JB if a region wanted to allow it.
The clarification issued earlier this year didn't make it any more clear... More letters written... Now JB=8-12, JA=12-18 is very clear. |

| It used to be that if a child was turning 12 during the season they were eligible to run FJA at the start of the season (if I remember correctly). Has this changed now that they can still run FJB at 12? |

| It was strange to find out the way we found out and even more strange the change was made/applied in August rather than January. I think long term the rule is probably a good idea, I'm not happy with the timing but it's out of our hands. Let's just say the SEB knows I'm not to happy about the process but if they care is another matter entirely. |
