|
|
Well as you might've seen in my other thread, I've recently purchased a used Rotax ('07 with updated clutch/cylinder/airbox components). I've been trying to go back through threads on here to see what people recommend checking when taking out of storage, but it seems most are dealing with winter storage when freezing is a main concern. This engine was stored since October according to the seller (after running 5 races after being completely rebuilt) in California, so freezing should be a non-factor. My question is what should I look for/do to be preventative and careful before taking it out for the first time (I've yet to buy a chassis so I've got plenty of time to go over the engine.) Thanks!

Definitely check and clean the carb. Most important, make sure the needle seat isn't stuck; it won't start like that.
Also,
- Lube clutch's needle bearing
- Check air filter
- Replace fuel/pulse lines if hard _________________ Aluminos |

When you do get a chassis and are checking the fuel lines, don't forget the fuel pick-up line inside the tank. They tend to shrink (lengthwise) so that after a while they don't pick up all the fuel - that can really spoil your day!
Also, although the engine has been rebuilt, since you don't know the history of the exhaust, it is probably worth at least checking the exhaust matting for wear/burning. (I would replace the mat and the perforated tube just to be sure).
A new spark plug could also save a lot of time later for a little expense. |
