Need more pics, right side up and details of steering supports and the tabs all along the frame are unusual so more detail would be good,
We'll figure this thing out.

This is the whole kart together, I just put the stuff back together after the paint job and it's coming along so far.. Going to get some more stuff to fix it up a bit but this is what I have so far..

I added the airbox myself, also the clutch seems to be giving me problems. It's a horstman DXL clutch 3 disk on a KT100 engine, enginetics brakes single disk rear.,
So yeah if anyone else has input please let me know..
Thanks for the suggestions so far I am googling those as well.
So far I have been told it could be an old margay or an invader kart.. I don't know what these are either so thanks again for the replies.. |

It appears not to be engaging properly. When I start going and rev it up it engages and goes a bit but I'm travelling really slowly and the RPM's are really high. I don't have anything to measure the RPM's but I would bet there up in the high 10's.
When I drove it before it engaged alot sooner and went quick, now it doesn't seem to want to go. I am thinking going direct drive since I think the Horstman DXL is the issue.
I took the clutch apart cleaned the plates put it back together to the .0310" settings for the springs like it said in the manual, adjusted about a 1/8 of a turn after it slipping., But then the keyway went and I needed to replace it.
So I ordered new keyways, when I took the clutch apart again to check it the plates were DRY! Oh no So I know I put clutch fluid in but I guess the plates absorbed the oil and there was some black residue on the bottom of the clutch I'm assuming from the plates.
Should I rebuild this Horstman DXL get a dry clutch? Or go Direct Drive?? I just ordered a 35 pitch 9 tooth direct drive from comet kart to see how that will work.. |

When the DXL is slipping correctly, the RPM should be right at 10,3000, depending on the pipe. A direct drive pipe might want to slip less.
You need a gauge. Really.
No fluid? The disks did not absorb it. Don’t know where it went. Maybe you forgot to put it in?? Maybe the cover gasket is bad? Did you fill it to the 4 o’clock position?
Did I say you need a gauge?
You know you can adjust the slip with the clutch on the engine and with the cover on. Take one of the Allen screws out and adjust the screws, thru the holes, on the springs. Counter clock wise for less slip. Don’t get carried away. An 1/8 of a turn does a lot. Make sure you do all four springs. _________________ If the data does not support the theory, get a new theory. Thanks Al, I'll have to look into that some more then, probably the seal is gone because fluid seems to leak out when it's running a bit. I am ordering some parts from someone on the classified section here so I should be able to replace some parts and get it going better..
Thanks again for your help. |

Jared, Go to the Horstman web site, from there you can download the DXL manual. Great tutorial.
