Was wondering if anyone has tested/tried one of these new batteries yet. Wondering if they're worth the price if you're not worried about weight.

Ted,

They are not in country yet. I ordered one and was called by the dealer to be asked if I still wanted it in April or May.

Jeff, the battery you linked too is likely very similar (or the same) but Rotax now has their own branded version:

2012.01.10 - NEW BATTERY IS OUT NOW
The new battery is out: less weight, more starting power, faster charging,
the same size as the regular battery;
and the best: from 2012 the battery is compliant with the Rotax MAX Challenge
regulations.

Ask your local dealer for Rotax item 265030 "Rotax Battery Lithium type 12V-2,3Ah"

They're noted on the gorotax.com parts list too at $366 - quite the price diff between the one you listed.

To say the least. Another way Rotax screws kart racers.

Rotax puts there name on it and charges $200 more!

and the best:
50 of them need to be sold so they can pay the $10,000.00 Bonus to First American Rotax MAX Challenge Grand Finals Champion.

Now thats funny!!! Laughing

I will be buying the one on my link. I road race CES series. They wont tech that.
When I sprint I will just use the regular one.

Wonder what they sell them for in the UK. Rotax prices seem to jump way up from that long trip accross the pond. Rolling Eyes
Green coil UK is $300 US dollars. Green coil here $480

Wow $366 for a battery? One more reason I can't afford to do the Rotax races.

Rotax does not seem to care about the bad ecomy and the high price of gas & diesel. Which is putting me back at the local bumpy sprint track!!!

I guess the question is when karters will learn? As long as people are stupid enough to pay Rotax is doing just fine. $220 for getting orange instead of green plastic Sad

Has anyone used a lithium ion battery yet? Is there any performance gain other than weight and quick recharging? Trying to figure if it is worth upgrading. We frequently run in the cold up here in N.E. and the battery can lose power pretty quickly. I typically have two fully charged batteries and just switch midway through the race or charge after each event with a generator.

Lithium Ion batteries will DEFINITELY perform poorly in cold weather (below 50 degrees). We experience this regularly with the electronics in one of my other hobbies. Fortunately, living in Florida, there aren't many days that this temperature is a factor.
