I'm surprised nobody mentioned Patrick's win at Long Beach on Saturday. It looked like a great race. From his website, "Patrick Long and Jörg Bergmeister teamed to take a spectacular victory at the Tequila Patrón American Le Mans Series at Long Beach Saturday, after Long drove a blistering stint and raised himself from 3rd in class to 1st with two well-executed passes." Congratulations Patrick!

He was awesome way back when in the WKA Constructors Cup Formula A.
Even then, you could tell he was a natural, I'd like to see him in the top ALMS class very soon. |

Tom or Steve : Isn't Patrick still a PORCHE Contract driver ? Although he HAS the Talent to move up his movement is still somewhat restricted I would think? _________________ Life's journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways totally worn out, shouting, "Holy **** what a ride!!!". |

Bob,
Yes he is a Porsche factory driver. What's that have to do with the fact he's an awesome sports car racer.
Didn't you have some interest in SPORTS CAR racing at some point?
What's wrong with being a professional factory SPORTS CAR racer? Can you say Mark Donohue?
I think a number of our wannabe F1 karters should take a look at this as a career move rather than f'ing around with all these "ladder" series. |

Bob O :Patrick is an AWESOME driver enough so that PORSCHE recognized his TALENT and MARKETABILITY ,then SIGNED him up.
I still am an AVID sportscar racing fan
Nothing wrong with being a Professional Factory Sportscar Driver . However I DO think it has LIMITED his upward POTENTIAL .Not sure of the $$$ situation he is in , Just saying in my opinion by now he has the attributes as mentioned above to have made it to the INDY Series with one of the TOP TIER TEAMS.
Not sure of your comments about the ladder series . But for REALITY SAKE How many Factory Driving Seats open Yearly ? Just another reason TALENTED KARTERS with $$$ really have no other options than to utilize the Ladder series _________________ Life's journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways totally worn out, shouting, "Holy **** what a ride!!!". |

As am I, Bob. Some of my fondest memories are of Elkhart Lake during IMSA weekend. I'm sorry, but IMHO, you're not a motorsports fan untill you've watched prototype sports cars qualifying in a pouring rain. I actually think the ALMS drivers have a more complete skill set on track than the Indy Car competitors for that reason alone. Too bad they aren't compensated accordingly. Things sure have changed since the glory days of Le Mans.
Still, it's really nice to see someone from American karting excell, besides Danica, and Tony Stewart: who both race in series I view as publicity driven. You follow what I'm saying, Bob? Maybe it's about staying power in the long run, as opposed to flash in the pan NASCAR or INDY series.
Porsche has a glorious history, maybe it suits him for now.
Regards, Steve |

Steve F: You do bring up a couple of very valid points .
The Alms and Daytona Prototype Drivers do bring a more COMPLETE SKILL set on track to the table. Bases on their WET experiences
Pick out any series you want but it is hard to find any TOP driver from any series with-out a karting background
again any top RR series the PAID drivers seem to be getting few and far between .Either you own part of the team DYSON and Field as examples or you bring the BIG $$$$ sponsorship with you such as Ganassi team Tel -Mex for Rojas or you RENT the ride. Go on the Grand-Am forum and see how many rides are available if you got the BIG $$$ _________________ Life's journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways totally worn out, shouting, "Holy **** what a ride!!!". |
