It is shaping up to be a great year at So-Cal for the WF. Many have taken the needed break from racing and can't take it anymore, they are back!

No politics here. Sometimes a different look at the whole picture brings it into view. There are many dedicated people who all are bringing the best they can in order to put on great racing.
So-Cal has a great family fun atmosphere and and will remain as such. The new president will see to that I am sure.
I will be racing my Track Magic (what a great name for a kart) WF for sure next year. Look for the scales to tip for sure. Laughing

Glad to hear the politics are resolved.

Hopefully all the parked WF racers will be back this year!

Good luck to all!

Hi Steve,

I took the kids to EP1K's last points race at CalSpeed last November. We had a really good time even though there were only about 10 WF's there. but then again I guess that's a big class now days. They had a really great race format with extended practice and qualifying sessions and two heats plus a main event with points issued for Qualifying, both heats, as well as the main; the winner being determined not by first place in the main, but by combined points throughout the day. The second heat also had an inverted start. It was really fun and a lot of track time. We were planning to run the WF with them this year but I just talked to a couple of the Tri-C board members yesterday and learned that EP1K is aligning with Tri-C this year and will not run a series of his own. Instead Tri-c is going to add the EP1K classes to their line-up and adopt a similar race format to what EP1K had with two heats and a main and points awarded in some fashion for all sessions. Don't know if you've been to Calspeed or not but they lack a few of the aminities we've grown accustomed to. There is no super-motard dirt on their race course, no vertcal drop-offs at the edge of pavement, no drifter damage to the fences and light poles , and no goatheads in the pits or the infield. And the other thing is, the track tends to change configuration on a regular basis. Other than that though its a pretty nice facility Confused . We will be there this year and I'm pretty sure Hilwigs will be there as well. And everyone is in the Sr. division now, which will be another 5-6 Sr. WF entries to what EP1K already had. So if the EP1K WF group returns, there should be upwards of 12-15 WF's there on a regular basis which should make for some pretty good racing. Also, LAKC had a few WF's last year, but they race on Sunday. Tri-C will be Saturday racing. We're going to try to make the first SoCal race this year also, but Tri-C at Calspeed is the club we plan to run this season . Hope you'll come join us.

Hi Mike, Do you know the date of the first Tri C race? The Cal speed calendar shows Feb 6th as the first race, is this correct?. I noticed the class weight last year was 390 lbs, are you guys bolting on 70 + lbs to make that weight or is it 365 ?
TIA
John

John,

The first race is Feb 6th. The weight last year for Tri-C was set at 390# at my suggestion because that is the weight IKF Region 7 was running and also because there were some heavies that said they would run if the weights allowed it. As it turns out, the heavies never showed up like they committed to, and the heavier weight didn't seem to do anything for IKF either and they have dropped the class this year. So from what I understadn the weight will go back to 365# this year.

I'm going to send you a PM also.

Hope to see you on Feb 6th.

Mike

Thanks Mike
Fortunately I can make the 365 weight okay. Yes I will be running with the Tri C karters this year along with the So Cal Sprinters. I haven't been able to run a full season for about 4 years for various reasons and wanted to get a full season in to see if the joy is still there. I started with the Tri C karters 13 years ago, thought it would nice to return to the club and also a venue which I haven't raced at before.

One more question, do you know the rear tire width, I am pretty sure it will be 6.0 if they follow the IKF book

World Formula Heavy at 390 is still a national IKF class. It may have been dropped at the regional level in your area but is alive and well up here.
It is the largest IKF class in region 6. Also this year there is local option for WF Masters at #400 driver over 40 or over 200lbs. Should be a big class for the region and the Grands.
Hopefully a number of racers will come up to Tri-Cities for the Grands in Richland,WA. Just repaved and a fun track to run.

Tires are 6.0.

Tri-c and EP1K joining forces this year...one of best moves I've seen a club make in years in so. cal. Should be some big WF fields.

Thanks everyone for the info. My question was two fold. First off, I would like to make some races myself this year, I think I can still keep up with John B even if he's still 150#'s soaking wet. Shocked It looks like Tri C will be the place for that.

The other part is our program at Apex in Perris. I was the Race Director for PAK last year. As most of you all know I'm an old 4 cycle guy. I'd like to start a 4 cycle program at Perris. But I can't race when I'm officiating. Also, the last thing any class in Karting needs in 10 is more dilution. But we need to start somewhere. Maybe crank up the old Goldcup West program in 11.

Mike, as for racing at Adams, I'll allways trade a couple of goats heads and some dirt for going into the Big Monza three wide. It's one of the best turns in Karting, Period.

Steve,Taelor is still running World Formula's. After your WKA serries she has won 2 SMKA championships,2 Duffies and just started doing some roadracing with NCK, she won 4 out of the five Infinion roadraces she's entered. WE are slowing down some because she is running a hobby stock at Santa Maria Speedway.
We enjoyed the WKA serries, It was a good chance to race a World Formula on different tracks.
