Read where Jake Elder died. That guy could make the tintops stand up and bark. In his prime I doubt if there was anyone better.

Brian : suitcase Jake Elder The Man , The Myth , The legend. I would have to rate him right at the top with Harry Hyde , Jr Johnson ,Glen Wood . The man Absolutely knew the cars bumper to bumper and how each part worked in relationship to all other parts As likely of an independent cuss as you were likely to find. During the 70's --80's He really earned his reputation hence the name "SUITCASE" Seemed to always get along with everyone except the car owners Laughing Give me 1/2 my fee when I leave the house ,I will take the other 1/2 when the checker flag falls. Really a one of a kind character Shared a few meals with him and even gave him a few rides to Dover , Bristol and Darlington The stories he would tell would have you pissing in your pants Embarassed The past year had been particularly bad for him. When they do open the NASCAR Hall of Fame in Charlotte there should be a special place for him . Though he did have many Controversies with NASCAR the FRANCE family and THE tech people .
