Price?
(assuming it includes the new gears as well).

What is the new spec for quantity and viscosity of oil using these?

Lewis,

As I understand it, same oil just twice as much, 100ml instead of the current 50ml.

John is correct on both counts. Also, the new clutch is designed to be used with the new gears as well. Using the new clutch with the previous design plastic gears will reduce the life of the gears much quicker.

As far as I know - the rules will have Micro and Mini Max packages still using the current clutch and gears throughout 2009 - as the power output for either doesn't warrant the need for the new parts.

This should be a relief for those owners that feel they needed to upgrade.

Dumb question but, how would anything to do with the clutch effect the balance shaft gears? Could this just be two different upgrades that don't interreact? Plastic gears accellerate faster right?

Has BRP addressed the discrepancies between the recommended viscosity stamped on the side of the gear case/cover and that printed in the manual?

When you ask people what they're running, you can get as many answers as there are viscosities.
(Granted, in the case of the plastic gears, almost any oil would work)

Not a dumb question at all. The clutch has more overall weight, yet is more compact so overall it puts more strain on the drive gears - resulting in a reduced life of the plastic gears.

Lewis - it was discussed that a decal was to be sent with each new kit that specifies the updated oil level. This would be supplied with the kit. I have not opened a new kit package, so I can't confirm this the is the case, but bulletins went out to all dealers on this subject.

Sorry - but I can't answer your question regarding viscosity. I run the recommended oil and do not deviate from that.

Just to add another one to your list, I have always used Amsoil Long Life Synthetic Gear Lube SAE 75W-90 http://www.amsoil.com/storefront/fgr.aspx with no problems and will continue to do so Wink

Drive gears? The clutch is driven by the main crankshaft, the plastic gears don't drive the clutch.

The plastic gears are on the other side of the engine and just drive the balance shaft and the water pump like they always did.

I like the idea of steel gears instead of plastic so, the point is academic but, the gear connection with the clutch sounds like a plot.

Agreed.
Since the owner's manual/documentation does not match the lettering stamped on the side cover, I'm pretty sure gear oil will never be a "tech" item.
I concur with your choice of gear oil/lube, especially now with metal gears.

Thank you for the information.

2 concerns:

1. a decal that will stay on the side of the motor in the presence of fuel, oil, carb/brake cleaner, etc.

2. currently, the procedure for verifying the correct fill level (50cc/ml IIRC) is to remove one of the screws on the side cover and if oil is at the top or just comes out, the oil level is correct (or at least not too low).
Now, using this same method, it seems impossible to verify 100ml, since anything between 50 and 100 will be indiscernable using the aforementioned screw removal/inspection method.

I would have thought BRP would provide a new cover (their 3rd IIRC) with a proper "100ml" access/inspection screw

What I know.

New clutch and gears from FTK in Orange, Calif. I was told $400.00 complete.

The new clutch and gears have to be run togeather. Oil level 100cc trans fluid and according to Don Moormeister and Rotax this is mandatory.

The last I read on cost was from Dave Davies. In this previous thread he mentioned $340 for the upgrade kit. This price includes a discount that Rotax is offering until the end of April. But that was early info and subject to change. Any new info Dave?
