OK, so I took one of the NFRA helmet cams out to our 2nd test session day to give it a try. The output wasn't tooooo bad considering how inexpensive (yes cheap) the camera is. One thing that I'm looking for help on is sound quality. If you check out the video links below (especially part 1) you'll notice that when the motors fire up things sound great. Once on the track, however, the wind noise takes over most of the time. So my question is, does anyone with experience with these things have any suggestions on how to eliminate or at least reduce the wind buffeting noise?

Thanks for any suggestions/thoughts you might have.

Just putting a windsock over th external mic will keep out the wind blast, however my problem is that once I get over 8,000rpms, the electrical static is terriffic. Sitting so close to the resistor plug and the CDI unit, there is no way to get away from it. Don't know how to shield all that out?

Your mic doesn't have to be "outside" I keep mine in the battery bag with the batteries that power the camera. I get no wind noise or static and you can hear the engine just fine.
Here is a video you can look at to see what I get with my set up.

| What is a NFRA helmet cam, where do you get them and what is the cost. Your video looked pretty good. |

At the risk of sounding stupid, what is a wind sock? I don't really have the option of locating the mic away from the camera lense as it is built-in.
Kurt, the cameras we are using in the NFRA are the Tony Hawk hemet cams. They go for anywhere from $49 to $80. Video/audio is recorded on SD cards. The NFRA camera #1 has a 2GB card which will record about 2 1/5 hours. Cams 2 & 3 are equiped with 1GB cards. _________________ Brad Wunder

A wind sock is the foam cover over the mic, supposed to reduce wind noise over the actual mic surface. _________________ Motohead |

Put a piece of duct tape over the mic.

I have a HelmetCam.com brand of camera that has an external mic. They put the mic in the housing with a hole drilled to accept audio. They also make a mic that you can clip on inside the helmet. The later bypasses the mic that mounts on the helmet. _________________ Patrick Hubbell

| Rick. What camer did you use? I note the NFR cam is very jerky and yours seemed to capture video without the jerks. |
