Despite my issue with the tire change and "pit spot" I'm still pumped about Long Track Nationals.

I hope that people will still show up. In fact I'm looking for 1 or two others to maybe share a "pit spot" with. I would really love to know how many people will actually be there.

Thanks,m
Scott

I'd like to go, but the dates conflict with the start of school for me.

Well...

It really bums me out, but I unfortunately cannot afford to go anymore. This race has been on my schedule since it first began, but it seems that it has become less of a priority to promote.

Here is my problem: To run the LTN, it will cost - $225 for entry and 5 gallons of SPEC fuel. I will need 7-10 gallons of fuel and I suspect that this fuel will cost another $10 a gallons, so add another $50. Then I will need a pitpass for myself and my crew guy at $25 a piece I figure.... plus now 2 weeks before the event, I fins that itis NOW spec tire, which twice earlier in the year I was assured it will not be (as it was last year and at Rock Island). At $160/set (3 sets) that adds to my cost as I have MG tires to run for the season, not B-stones. Then before this event I find grass pit spots are to be PAID mandatory no matter where you pit @ $75. I am up to nearly $900 and haven't even left my house yet. My budget for this event was to be around $500 for entry and travel as I had already acquired tires and my fuel is $3.50 a gallon (AFTER OIL IS ADDED). These cost may be justifiable to some people, but I have a commitment to myself and sponsors to provide the best exposure to them for the money.... this folks is not it.

This race has not been promoted, the rules had not been established, the information was not passed along and the costs of going to event started to add up the closer the event got. Poor planning.

In retrospect, the race @ Portland Int'l made it possible for me to have my equipment shipped, fly to the race, pay for my tires and entry (with the passes included - no charge for parking) for under a $1500 budget. (stayed at a friends home to save money on hotel). For that race, I was put in front of 60,000 spectators, had an opportunity to talk and meet thousands of interested people that had never seen a kart before and introduce my SPONSORS to these people as well. All in all.... VALUE for my SPONSOR MONEY.

I hope that the LTN will become a good value, but this race is WAY overpriced for what you get.... and it is a shame. I was told the pit spot charges were needed because it is a shifter race and there weren't enough entries to cover everything... so they have to charge more to be able to cover costs.

I say promote the race better to insure you will have enough people there... find good sponsors for the event so that the racer doesn't have to pay for it. It costs enough all ready to travel to this race, maintain your equipment and enter.... we don't need to be nickel and dimed for every little thing every time a race is scheduled.

PLEASE don't take this as a stab... it is a concern.. I would help out promoters in any way to insure that I could GO to these events and they offer a half way decent return for the money... but to spend $1500 to go to a race that has not been promoted, was poorly planned and overcharged.... then "hope" it gets decent coverage is ridiculous. I hope that the people I would have met at Dega will be met down the road at another track soon!

Respectfully -

Marc Miller
