On a 125 are there any advantages to using mag wheels over cast or spun aluminum wheels besides the lower cost of aluminum and under what conditions should one type be selected over the other?

Tommy,

Wheels are one way to tune a chassis. Aluminum wheels flex more than magnesium, which frees the chassis. Magnesium wheels are stiffer which increases bite. You don't have to use all four either. On many occasions I have used one type on the front and another type on the rear to get the proper handling characteristics.

I have found that the kart is smoother through the turns on magnesium wheels than on aluminum. Also, magnesium wheels usually have bead locks to prevent the tire from coming off the bead. Although I have never witnessed it, I have heard that the corning forces a shifterkart can put on the tire can actually push the tire right off the bead. Worth $300 extra? I'm not sure.

Dear Tommy,
I agree with the previous posts, the main reason I use mag (CRG) wheels IS that so true. But now there are several brands of high quality spun aluminum whells that also run true. What ever you buy, if they don't run trur send them back.
